I'm going out of town for a few weeks this winter and thought it might be nice to see if anyone wanted to sublet my furnished apartment in East Williamsburg; I imagine this might be especially nice for someone who wants to be here for the holidays.
This is a pretty good deal, as I pay around twice this for rent and utilities.
The apartment is a big, high-ceiling railroad, with its own back yard area, a skylight and central heating. It's fully furnished with a nice bed, couch, TV, wifi, and a bathtub that's actually acceptable to use as a bathtub, which is pretty rare.
Location is pretty good, by the Grand Street L. It's not perfectly chic, but it's useful. And if you have flexible dates (e.g., you'd want it December 19th to Jan 4th) I could shave some of the cost off too.
So: what's the catch?
The catch is whoever would stay here would have to take care of my two cats, Pretzel and Mr.Beans. Pretzel is a fat tortoiseshell cat with some attitude and Mr.Beans is a thin black cat who is very friendly. Neither are especially difficult to deal with, but this means 1) we can't allow any new pets in and 2) we would like a responsible pet-sitter to take the spot. If you are allergic to cats, I'm afraid you might have a bad time here.
You'd have to feed the cats, change their water bowl, and clean out their litter box occasionally. It's not a big deal, but it is a deal, which is why I'm listing below-market rate. I'd have to pay a cat sitter $600, so I took that off the sublet price.
The second catch is a close friend of mine got burnt with a nightmare sublet situation once: I would feel more comfortable having a subletter who I can interview first, with references, and all the rest. Forgive me if I'm anxious about that, but the ideal submitter is someone who can really put me at ease.
