I'm a guy in my late 30s. I'm looking to move into an apartment where I can both live and play music. I play electric guitar and sing through a microphone. I'd classify my style as art rock (heavier on the art part); think bands like Pink Floyd and Radiohead, but more toned down. I like to play loud when I get home from work, and I despise using headphones or turning the volume on the amp down because tone is essential to me when creating and practicing. I'm also on a tight budget and so it's going to be hard to afford paying for both an apartment and separate rehearsal space, which I know is what many people in this kind of situation do, and not to mention that I would hate to have to leave all my equipment in a separate rehearsal space and travel there every time I want to play. So I'm looking to see if there are any living situations out there in which it would be possible to both live and play. Both shared or non-shared apartments are fine with me. A basement apartment/room which has thick ceilings or something to that effect might work well, but of course any living situations that allows me to play music as I please are fine. It could be a basement apartment or a basement room in a shared apartment or any other solo or shared apartment/room. Of course, this would likely be most appealing to other musicians, and so if there are any other musicians out there that either have a vacancy or are wanting to go in on splitting an apartment in which they can both live and play, please let me know. But I'm open to living with anyone as long as I can both live and play. I typically don't play for more than 3 to 3.5 hours on any given day, and I of course only play during non-quiet hours (i.e., between the hours of 7 A.M.-10 P.M.), generally after work on weekday evenings, as well as Sunday afternoons or evenings. I'm looking to pay up to $1,500/month. I'm fine with living in any borough in NYC other than Staten Island.
If anyone knows of anything or is looking for a similar situation, let me know.
