Amarcord Vintage Fashion is seeking a reliable and hardworking assistant addition for our Warehouse (Behind the Scenes) location, who is diligent and detail-oriented. This is a behind-the-scenes position, focused mostly on preparing and cleaning merchandise for the store, e-commerce, archive, and more. This is a unique position that calls for someone who is able to wear many hats, learn at a fast pace, and be flexible. Critical thinking and being a self-starter is a must.
This is a full time, entry level position, offering at least 40 hours a week. This position will begin as temporary, with the potential to evolve into a permanent part of our team. The regular schedule is from Monday-Friday, 10-6PM. You must be able to work occasional weekends. You must have the flexibility to exceed or adjust your normal hours if/when necessary. You must love to work, and be fully dedicated to your position when on the clock.
FIRST AND FOREMOST, this is a position focused on preparing merchandise for our store location. It requires steaming and ironing clothing, light sewing, cleaning and restoring accessories, cleaning the space, organization, and heavy lifting.
Please do not apply if you do not have experience with a clothing steamer or iron.
You should also be able to perform basic repairs such as re-attaching buttons and labels, closing open seams, and so on. (Please note: while it is important to be able to perform the basic sewing skills mentioned above, we do already have a full-time seamstress - this position is more focused on steaming/ironing, and all the other things mentioned here)
Job responsibilities include:
• Preparing (reviewing, steaming, ironing, prepping, cleaning) merchandise for the store location, trade shows, sales, pop-ups and more.
• Assisting in the delivery of merchandise, supplies, etc. from Warehouse to Store and Archive
• Organizing, cleaning, and maintaining the Warehouse
• Working with and helping our current warehouse assistant, as well as our in-house seamstress to coordinate repairs, what needs to be done, and the timeline.
• Helping to coordinate merchandise laundry dry-cleaning.
• Maintain supplies and stock at the Warehouse.
• Caring for and maintaining merchandise in the Warehouse, Store, Archive, etc.
• Potentially patricipating in the set up and breaking down of trade shows, in-store events/parties, pop ups, sales, etc.
• Assisting in the seasonal change overs at the Store location.
• Assisting with organizing and cleaning of the Store and the Archive
• Running various errands
• Assisting in facilitating Costume Design and Fashion Design appointments at the Warehouse, and sometimes at the Archive.
Applicant MUST be comfortable with:
• Handling USED, second-hand clothing.
• Spending majority of the day on your feet.
• Preparation of clothing, which requires use of a professional steamer and iron, etc.
• Basic sewing skills, including attaching buttons, re-stitching labels, closing open seams, etc.
• Cleaning shoes and other accessories
• Cleaning of clothing, including washing, laundering, etc.
• Using various different chemicals and products
• Working with various fibers, including wool/animal hair.
• Handling or being around dust/debris. If you have a dust allergy, this position most likely is not for you.
Requirements:
• Comfortable with and have experience using a professional clothing steamer and iron
• Basic sewing skills, including attaching buttons, re-stitching labels or open seams, etc.
• At least basic knowledge of eras & clothing terminology, as well as basic knowledge of fashion & designer labels.
• Experience with laundry, clothing care and cleaning
• Comfortable with heavy lifting, loading/unloading, physical work.
• Ability to work independently as well as to collaborate well with the team
• Comfortable taking direction from team members
• Must be practical, neat, organized, intuitive, proactive, positive, pleasant
• Availability to work on weekends for certain occasions
• English Speaking; Eligible to work in US
Extra skills that would be helpful in the position:
• Knowledge of various care and cleaning techniques and detergents/ their application and results on different materials is a PLUS
• Passion for vintage, fashion, and clothing.
• Extensive knowledge of clothing, including terminology, styles, fabrics, labels, etc. Extensive knowledge of vintage clothing, including eras, styles, labels, etc.
Note: This job includes working with heavy packages and use of high ladders; it involves working with detergents and cleaning products. This job may not be well-suited for people with certain allergies such as to chemicals, dust, animal hair or other.
