We are seeking a driven, analytical, and detail oriented Junior Procurement Associate to join our team with an understanding of the public construction process. In this role, you will support the preparation of construction cost estimates and assist in managing the procurement process, working alongside senior estimators, project managers, subcontractors, and vendors to produce competitive and well supported bids. You will be responsible for determining the total cost of public works construction projects ranging from $500k to $5mil.
This role is a strong fit for a professional with prior estimating experience and is eager to grow their estimating capabilities while gaining meaningful exposure to public agency projects across New York City. A solid understanding of construction costs and scoping, strong attention to detail, research skills, and a solutions oriented mindset are essential.
This is a 3 month position with the opportunity to grow into a full time position. This is an in-office position, Monday - Friday from 8am to 3:30pm.
What You Will Do:
The Junior Procurement Associate will support the preparation of cost estimates for construction projects in the public sector. You will work closely with our senior estimators, project managers, and preconstruction leads to compile accurate and competitive bids across a range of project types. This role involves assisting in all aspects of the estimating process, including quantity takeoffs, subcontractor and vendor procurement, scope review, and budget analysis.
Responsibilities:
Review RFP – including plans, specifications, sketches, design narratives, addenda, etc.
Attend pre bid meetings, verify existing conditions, analyze factors that may affect constructability
Review project drawings and upload each project to planroom/Building Connected
Reach out to subcontractors to ensure comprehensive scope coverage for each project
Generate any job specific requests for Information (RFIs)
Proficient in on screen take offs and Microsoft Excel
Preparing bidders lists – custom tailored for each project, carefully selecting those subcontractors that are most appropriate for each project (and most likely to bid)
Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs
Following up with subcontractors throughout the bidding period to keep communications open, and gauge interest
Analyze historical project data for application to current projects
Identify critical issues that may impact cost sensitive areas
Initiate inquiries for prices from sub trades and suppliers
Managing workload to ensure adequate time and resources are earmarked for each respective project
Be able to ask for assistance from others in the office
Who You Are:
1–3 years of experience in construction, architecture, or design build
Familiarity with AutoCAD
A natural organizer that utilizes calendars, checklists, and tidy folders
Detail oriented, with strong follow through and great written communication
Curious, humble, and genuinely excited to learn processes and management across public works project
Comfortable juggling multiple projects in a fast paced, high standard environment
A warm, polished communicator who can hold their own with discerning clients
Required Experience:
Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Outlook
Experience with Procore, Plan Swift, AutoCAD
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent attention to detail and ability to stay organized under deadline pressure
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with NYC and NYS public agency projects, procurement requirements, and compliance
Experience with Building Connected or similar bid management platforms
Exposure to construction project management processes and preconstruction workflows
