This laminate bass has been appraised by my luthier as an early 1940s instrument from the Wilfer workshop. The bass bears a "Made in Germany" label, as well as a label for a shop it passed through, Music Studios of Farmington, dated 1987.
This instrument has served me very well over the past few years for professional jazz and musical theater engagements in New York City. It has a nice sound and plays easily. It could also serve nicely as a solid student instrument.
Approximately 41+1/2" string length. Nice slim shoulders, a slender neck (like some classic American plywood basses) and not terribly heavy! Incidentally, the bass seems to be built to a pattern that is very similar to many Juzek basses. Very easy to get around both while playing and while traveling.
A repair has been made to an area of the top veneer on the treble shoulder, which does not appear to impact any of the underlying wood. Otherwise the bass is in fabulous condition.
