Gorgeous package and so much fun. Beautiful. This is a Hofner viola, gorgeous patina and tiger maple sides and back. High-quality instrument. It was originally bought for the NYC schools so has some scratches, but that adds to the provenance and character. This is German craftsmanship and German hardwoods, which were world-class in 1964. (Paul McCartney played a Hofner German bass in 1964, part of the family of excellence in Germany at that time.) Just put on Larsen strings and new bridge. The bow reads Tourte above the frog and Germany beside the screw (heeds a rehair). It has provenance. The case is magnificent and $300 and in excellent condition -- fantastic backpack case with BAM straps.
