Vintage Harmony H162 grand concert (000 size) guitar, built in Chicago between 1958 and 1962, has a solid Honduras mahogany sides and a one-piece back, spruce top, and Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge. Measuring 15” wide at the lower bout, 3-3/4” deep, scale length 25”, 1-3/4” nut, 2-1/4” saddle spacing, with a steel reinforced 50's-style chunky C-shaped neck and 12” radius fretboard. The action is set at 6/64–5/64” w/12-53g strings.
This instrument was recently restored and upgraded by a skilled luthier. The body has moderate wear to the finish, and a couple of small cracks that were glued and cleated. The top is crack-free and has been sanded and refinished, and a new pickguard installed. The neck was reset, side dots added along the fretboard, and the frets dressed and polished. Additional bracing was added in the upper bout along the sound hole and under the neck extension for stability. The string holes in the bridge plate and top were filled with hardwood plugs and redrilled. The saddle slot was recut and the bridge reglued. A new bone nut and compensated saddle were installed, along with new tuners and a JJB Prestige 330 passive pickup with volume control.
