This 1980 Yamaha SR500 runs off a battery eliminator, making it a super simple and reliable machine. One cylinder, one carburetor, and electronics are minimal and run off the engine so there's no battery to keep charged in the winter. Bike runs and starts reliably.
Previous owner was a mechanic in NY State who oversaw an engine rebore and rebuild with upgraded rockers, springs, and valves. The displacement is now closer to 550cc. The rebuild was done around 2016. There were around 20K miles on the odometer when I originally purchased the bike. I've mostly used it to ride around the city.
• Genuine Mikuni VM36 round slide carburetor
• Aftermarket Aluminum Alloy Swingarm by Moto Lanna
• Brand new wiring harness
• New battery eliminator (Capacitor)
• New electronic ignition CDI
• New Regulator/Rectifier
• Recently rebuilt stator (rebuild by Rex's Speed Shop in the UK)
• Rear end chopped, rear hoop added with aftermarket seat
• Generic reverse cone muffler is currently installed, but will include a White Bros Supertrapp muffler as well
• K+N Air Filter
• Front fork oil and seals replaced within the last couple years
• Removed tachometer, replaced speedometer
• Centerstand only - Side stand removed from frame to reduce weight
I've replaced many of the bolts/machine screws with new stainless steel socket head screws.
Upgraded rear suspension, speedometer, headlamp bucket, throttle assembly, etc. are nothing fancy so I won't dig up their manufacturers, but obviously an improvement from the stock 1980 parts. I will include original components if desired as I held on to most of it.
Bike is currently located at Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. If you're local we can arrange a test ride.
