Hi, my name is Griffin Wollowitz. I am a lifetime musician, having done recording and live backing performance for top charting bands, in addition to releasing my own music and performing live all around NYC. I have taught my entire adult life, from six to sixty year olds, on a wide range of instruments: piano, guitar, bass, and drums, as well as banjo, mandolin, and ukulele. My focus is largely on teaching adults, but I will happily teach your child if they are passionate about it. While originally trained as a jazz pianist and drummer, I now mostly play bluegrass and rock music, and I try to bring all of this background to every student.
My teaching style centers around the premise that being a great musician first and foremost comes from being a great listener, and if you are choosing to start lessons you are probably already passionate about listening to music. A base level of music theory that will grow as we play the kind of music you want to learn will help you not just play, but understand music better as a whole. I believe strongly that picking apart the theoretical nuances of music doesn't make it boring, but shows the vast beauty hidden behind what we hear.
