Sources online say the artist is JH Jacobs. others call him Nicolas Henri Jacobs. “This hand-colored engraving is from Nicolas Henri Jacob's Storia naturale delle Scimie e dei Maki. The work was published in 1814 in Milan by P. Hughes. It is one of the most extensive works published on primates.”
Pics on post show the piece without glass so you can see with no glare. glass is included! took it out to clean and so you can see clearly. last two pics show it with the glass in frame.
NOTE: note that the framer cut the glass slightly smaller than the metal frame presumably to let airflow thru. some of the gasket shows along the edge. if this bothers you, you could replace the glass with larger or plexi.
paper is 11.75x16”
frame is 13.75x17.75”
museum quality frame job. welded polished metal frame is screwed into the solid wood frame. the glass is edged with rubber to add space between the mat and frame. the original print is mounted using archival hanging tape. appear to have been glued down to a board many years before this frame job. see detail pics with mat removed
