This beautiful and authentic vintage steamer trunk, likely from the late 1800s to early 1900s, has been painstakingly restored from a beaten-up "left-to-rot" with all metal parts rusted over (see last photo for its original condition) to its current respectable piece to grace and add a touch of chic vintage to your home. It makes an eclectic coffee table or a handsome end bed storage trunk or simply just a sophisticated decor piece of a bygone era worthy of a conversation over coffee.
This trunk is made of wood covered with faux leather; with leather (or possibly heavy duty canvas that I do not have the expertise to identify) and metal piping, gorgeously studded all around with metal corners, buckles and locks; and a super heavy duty leather handle. The interior, with a lingering old cedarwood scent, is still lined with its original paper material. This trunk has been restored with the aim that as much of the originality and authenticity being retained. All rusted metal parts had been meticulous scraped, re-polished and sealed with rust sealant to prevent re-rusting. The leather parts had been revived and oiled for a nice sheen.
Due to usage wear, aging and weathering, it acquired a natural distressed finish and antique look (with the original lined interior) where some metal parts have darkened patina and the leather piping showing much distress. There is also a small tear of the faux leather part at the bottom section of the trunk. The interior paper material has yellowing stains visible - all adding to its at least 100 years old vintage quality and character. This trunk had been aired out under the sun for a few hours and also for some UV radiation to kill any lingering germs. Trunk had also been cleaned with mild cleanser, sprayed with distilled white vinegar all over to remove possible mold and disinfected with hydrogen peroxide.
Overall it is still in a good vintage condition. The approximate measurements are 32"L x 16"W x 12"H. There's also a safety hinge on one side to prevent the lid from slamming down.
