The Roberts Field school is seeking a talented and energetic educator who is experienced in working with children ages 5 through 11 years old to share with and guide them in a sonically diverse, holistic, and interactive approach to musical enrichment. This educator must be able to engage groups of 11to 17 children at a time in musical explorations, practices, and expressions with recurrent focuses on:

• singing (song) and vocal exercises
• rhythmic and percussive exercises
• rudimentary music theory
• rudimentary musical notation and sight reading (related to identifying notes and signatures on a scale)
• key and tonal identification
• identifying the sonic landscape
• playing music while the students draw and/or move to it

We also encourage improvisational musical play which naturally springs from the impromptu sensibility of the educator. Ultimately, we want the musical experience to allow the children to build in their knowledge and love of the landscape of music through the repetitive focus upon weekly practices, playing, listening, and the review of musical concepts.

We are looking for someone who truly loves children and music, and seeks to share their gift, profession, and the joy of music with elementary aged children. The students will thrive and revel in the delight of what is being offered as they are met with the passion and practice of their music teacher. The teacher must have solid classroom management skills based in compassionate behavioral direction and guidance of the children, and have had experience teaching music to students of this age. The position is ideal for a variety of musicians/instrumentalists and is not limited only to those who play piano or guitar. While playing an instrument that offers melody is necessary, we are open to the variety of instruments that can act as the lead instrument from which the educator offers the music programming.

The educator must have a few weekday mornings and/or a few weekday afternoons available per week (or some combination of the two) between the hours of 9:00am and 1:30pm for a total of 3 to 4 forty minute classes per week offered. There is some schedule flexibility available if necessary when enough advanced notice is given.

The position is ideal for a working artist/musician who would love to join a unique and creative community of educators working with an extraordinary educational mission. The program consists of 9 to 10 weeks beginning the first week of April through the first or second week of June. We can be flexible with some absences if necessary with substantial prior notice.

Please write to us with your background and experience and tell us specifically what you can offer this position. Please also submit your resume.

Compensation is competitive with hourly or per class teaching artists rates depending upon experience.
