Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC, 2010. Hardcover, 352 pp. 1st edition (stated). Yves Klein (1928-1962) was an influential and groundbreaking French performance and conceptual artist. In his rather short life (34 years) he managed to shake up the post-war European art world and carve out a unique space for himself. This retropective at the HIrschorn museum took place from May 20 to September 12, 2010. It also traveled to the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Profusely illustrated. The book's shade of ultramarine blue was of the artist's own invention, and is now known as 'International Klein Blue'. On all sides, including the endpapers and text block. Issued without a dust jacket, instead there is an obi-style title band. When pulled back it reveals a blue shade closer to the original.
