So sad to see how small this tent is for my kid. It was a hideaway, an escape from the banality of the room, a sidekick to an imagination. He would disappear in there for hours, for the night with sleeping bags, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a flashlight that lost its batteries throughout the dark wilderness of a Brooklyn home. With the aid of a solar system ceiling projector they camped out in fields of wild, disagreeing on whether Jupiter or Saturn was the best.

Now it’s an oversized pair of square shorts, standing folded behind a couch for the past three years. Occasionally, still in child mode, the almost-teenager calls the aging father who finds his kid rolled into a yoga ball in a much-too-tiny tent... knees, head and elbow pushing the walls far beyond their limits. “Should I sleep here all night, papa?” a goofy smile balancing the joke and the genuine will to disappear in a sentimental fantasy.

With regret that every moment brings a change and a melancholy but supportive smile, I say “I’ll get you your sleeping bag and book”. I make sure the flashlight has fresh batteries. Just one more night, please, be a little kid.

This is an IKEA Busa indoor play tent. It’s very easy to set up and fold. Although a bigger kid will fit, it’s best for a smaller one.

Cube-ish shape 30”+~

It is soiled with memories, made-up worlds and other inventions and many more to come.

It’s in Coney/Brighton area but I could potentially bring it your way if it’s on my way.

Don’t call at night. That’s when I sit and wonder what this whole thing is.
