This is a 1978 edition of the original 1972 vintage circus poster design by Waldemar Swierzy. The huge red elephant was used to symbolise the Soviet state and the tiny bicycle depicts the idea that it could topple at any time. The mirror image acrobats would have been a nod to the double-dealing by those in charge. - which might also explain why this is the most sheepish looking elephant we’ve ever seen.
