1. Create an applet that plays a simple guessing game. Give it two buttons labeled Odd and Even. The user must guess whether a secret number is odd or even by clicking one of these buttons. After a guess is made, the applet should display either Congratulations, you are correct! or Sorry, you are wrong. In either case, also display The secret number was: followed by the secret number. Use labels for these three messages.

Draw a sequence of figures that appear one after the other, as in Listing 4.9. Make the figures assume a running position. Change the color of the person’s face in each succeeding figure, going from white to pink to red to yellow to green. Have the smiling face gradually change its mouth shape from a smile on the first person to a frown on the last person. Use a switch statement to choose the color. Embed the switch statement in a loop.
Hint: this program uses a switch to determine the face color and the height adjustment of the mouth. The mouth height adjustment is used to gradually change the mouth from a smile to a frown. Also, a number of constants are added for the position and size of the arms, legs, and body.

Guaymas city has been suffering in the last years unusual weather phenomena. This year the hurricane Jimena has lashed the city of Guaymas leaving an important level of rain. 2009 is the year when it rained the most (in the last 50 years) and this caused an important damage to the population of Guaymas and to the city. The hurricane affected people of all backgrounds, leaving a lot of people in the middle of nowhere since they lost everything they had. Everything was affected, public buildings, leisure areas, houses, schools, there was no place that was not affected. This international volunteer project is organized in order to help in the reconstruction of the city of Guaymas with the support of motivated volunteers. There are many things to be done since there were several areas seriously affected. We need help to clean beaches, to rebuild sportive spaces, to clean up parks and community spaces, to fix roads, to help in rural communities by giving health workshops. After the hurricane, the children affected don’t have a place to continue their studies, they lost everything they had for their education: material, furniture, the roof collapsed and the walls were damaged because of the water and humidity. For that reason, at this first stage, the goal of the project is renovating and reconstructing two schools damaged by the Jimena Hurricane, so the children affected can return to their educative activities as soon as possible and in a clean and healthy environment, appropriate for their development and with the support of the international volunteers. This project will benefit 25 families for the first school and 180 families for the second school. Volunteers will help with the reconstruction of the two schools affected. They will help with reconstruction activities such as painting walls, reforestation, and cleaning the schools. They will contribute to renovate these structures through scratching and painting walls, and will also do some artistic work such as painting murals on the walls of the schools with the help of local volunteers with landscapes and thematic appropriate for the children. The volunteers will also help planting trees and reforesting the affected area, making and putting signals and signs. Age range: 18 and over Location: Morelia is a beautiful historic city, and capital of the state of Michoacán. Founded almost 500 years ago, the city has a wonderful central zone with buildings dating back to the time of the Spanish conquest as well as all the more modern attributes (shops, bars, cafés, etc). The city's population is over 1 million and the climate is moderately warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-35º C. Morelia is well connected to a variety of great places to visit, such as Pátzcuaro, and the ancient Purépecha capital Tzintzunzan.
We are looking for students, professionals, and residents in the New York metro area to lead weekly tutoring sessions to provide homework help for junior high and high school students, and support adults enrolled in our ESL and GED programs.
We are currently recruiting volunteers to begin orientation in mid-January but this is an ongoing opportunity.
Program Structure:
• A unique, small-session environment where tutors work individually with students, and collaborate as a team to provide an enriching experience for all participants.
• Sessions are held once a week at set times for each tutoring site, including Monday-Friday afternoon and Wednesday evening, and Saturday afternoon.

Individuals between the ages of 16-25 and a close family member are being sought for participation in a research study at New York University School of Medicine. In order to qualify for participation, individuals must not have any psychiatric history and must have past or present marijuana use. However, individuals must not have any other recreational drug use in order to qualify for participation.
This study involves participating in a Structured Clinical Interview as well as blood and urine samples. Study participation time is approximately 4 hours and can be broken up into different study visits according to participants' needs.

Tutoring takes place on Saturdays at a school on the Upper West Side. There are two

Since 1999 the ex-Convent San Giorgio, a Volunteering Permanent Centre, has hosted hundreds of volunteers in different occasions. The Convent is situated in the region of Abruzzo, centre of Italy, about 150 km away from Rome. It has been fully restored by the local institution Mountain Community and furnished following as much as possible the "static free" standards.
The project aims to bring new economic, tourist and especially cultural and spiritual movements in a quite isolated area. It deals with sustainable living, no waste, recycling and clever use of energies.
As every year international volunteer groups will spend some days at the ex Convento San Giorgio: a good chance to meet people from all over the world, to know a bit of Italian culture, getting in touch with permaculture and sustainable living; all this while staying in a Convent of the XVII century and discovering the beautiful Park of Sirente–Velino.
This is a special project in which international volunteers will help to collect olives in the field. The field is about 45 minutes away from the Convent (by car). During this period volunteers will be spending the day in the field. Work can be hard for some who are not used to it.

TET Festival is Vietnamese traditional New Year Holiday (following Lunar Calendar) which usually falls into mid January – mid February. This is the time for family reunion and visits to friends and relatives. Like the Christmas and New Year in western countries, people here prepare a lot for this holiday, from renovating their houses, making cakes and a lot of food and drinks. However, in the orphanages, children do not have enough to prepare for their holiday. Most of them stay in the orphanage or centers over the Tet, only some of them go back to their home villages. Thus, there is need to prepare something for those children, so they still have good time and enjoy such big holidays.
In Ho Chi Minh City area, an international workcamp will be set up to prepare Tet holidays in Ky Quang Orphanage and Chua La Orphanage. Volunteers will help renovating the houses, cleaning the site and making Chung Cake (traditional cake for children in Tet).

This research study uses brain-imaging technology to visualize and research changes in brain chemistry that may cause an episode of depression in patients with bipolar disorder. You will undergo two PET scans and an MRI scan. Following research study participation you will receive up to six months of outpatient treatment or up to two months of inpatient treatment. You will be treated with either lithium or Lamictal, based on your clinical needs. You will be paid up to $450 for your time and effort if you are eligible and choose to participate in this research study.
Eligibility:
• Ages 18 to 65 years old
• Meets criteria for Bipolar Disorder
• Currently depressed

If you are diagnosed with COPD, there are different treatments available, depending on how severe your symptoms are. Treatment can and does improve quality of life for many people. While the disease is not reversible, it can be slowed and actions taken to improve breathing. The number one thing you can do to improve your condition if you haven't already is to QUIT SMOKING. If you don't, the disease will progress faster, and the treatments won't help as much as they would if you were smoke free.

Long-acting bronchodilators last about 12 hours and are used daily. Because bronchodilators are inhaled, the medicine goes directly into the lungs, where it's needed.
Inhaled glucocorticosteroids are steriods prescribed to some COPD patients to help reduce inflammation of the airways. A doctor may try them on a person for 6 weeks to 3 months initially to see if they are of any help.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a program of combined exercise, disease management counseling and training to help the person become more active and do what they can to slow the progression of symptoms.
Oxygen treatment is used when the patient has severe COPD symptoms, known usually at this point as emphysema. The oxygen level in the blood is too low, which leaves the person quite breathless. Inhaling oxygen will help them get enough oxygen and there will be less difficulty breathing. Depending on the need of the person, a doctor may advise using oxygen for part of the day, or all of the time.
Surgery is sometimes recommended when other treatments have not provided any relief.
COPD symptoms can worsen very quickly. When this happens, people may find that breathing suddenly becomes much more difficult; they may get a fever; experience more coughing and sputum that has changed colors. Be sure to get in touch with your doctor if this happens to you.
If you experience any of these symptoms, seek emergency help:
You have trouble talking or walking
You have a very fast or irregular heartbeat
Your lips or fingernails are gray or blue
Your breathing is fast and hard, even after you've used your medications
It's a good idea to put together a list which includes the numbers of your doctor and hospital, as well as what medications you're taking. Make sure you have the numbers of people who can take you to the doctor also, if necessary. Put this list in a central location, such as on the refrigerator. Let other family members know that it's there.

The Rockefeller University Hospital is looking for psoriasis patients to join a research study looking at the effectiveness of a new antibacterial agent on psoriasis scale samples.
You may be able to participate if you are:
• Male or Female
• Age 18 or older
• Not using antibiotic cream or oral antibiotics within 7 days of starting the study
Study participation involves:
• 1 outpatient visit for approximately 1 hour
• Gentle scraping of psoriasis scales from active lesion sites
**Please note that the antibacterial agent will not be applied directly to your skin.**
