The elephant conservation project started in 2011. The pilot project was successful and we got very positive feedback from both volunteers and the local government. The aim of the project is to assist the local governmental Elephant Conservation Centre in looking after elephants. The Elephant Conservation Centre Seblat was established in October 1992, located in District Putri Hijau, North Bengkulu (also known as Southwest Sumatra). On the basis of Forestry Ministry Decree, this conservation centre lies on 6.865 hectare of land. In this area, there are various flora and fauna species which are protected, such as tapir, deer, various kinds of snakes, gibbon, hoop, monkey, monkey tail short, wild elephants, and various kinds of birds. Last year there were 11 tamed elephants, both male and female, which were being taken care of by the conservation centre. The area is located in the middle of the rural region Seblat, surrounded by rubber and oil palm forest. This place can be reached either by car or by bus for approximately 5 hours from the airport or Bengkulu City. There are 4 neighboring villages close by: Suka Maju, Suka Merindu, Suka Baru and Suka Medan.
The volunteers will help local mahouts daily to take care of the elephants starting from bathing/showering, feeding, health checking and grassing the elephants. One local mahout will be accompanied by two volunteers in doing the daily job.

Rajasthan was inhabited long before 2500 BC and the Indus Valley Civilization had its foundation here in north Rajasthan itself. Around 1400 BC the Aryans paid a visit and settled forever in the area. The local population was pushed down south and towards the east. Afghans, Turks, Persians and Mughals followed in mixing their blood, first in war then in peace, with the existing original inhabitants. This blending gave the martial lineage to the Rajputs.
Mount Abu is the highest peak in the Aravalli range and the only hill station in Rajasthan state. The mountain forms a distinct rocky plateau 22 km long by 9 km wide. The highest peak on the mountain is Guru Shikhar at 1722 metres above sea level. It is referred to as an 'oasis in the desert', as its heights are home to rivers, lakes, waterfalls and evergreen forests. Mount Abu is home to a number of Jain temples.
This volunteer project involves teaching basic English and Mathematics, Health and Hygiene, and Environmental protection to children from poor and marginalized communities in the non-formal schools. The volunteers will be teaching through creative learning methods like art, music, games etc. There will also be House visits and meetings with rural people to spread awareness about health, education and hygiene. Volunteers can take the school children to places in the city like picnics, exposure visits and city walks. Also, the volunteers will get a chance to take part in the renovation work at local schools and orphanages, and engage in activities like painting, building playgrounds, tree plantation, promoting rainwater harvesting, etc.

If you are a veteran of the U.S. Military between the ages of 20 and 60 who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom, you may be eligible to participate in a research study.

We are looking for men and women veterans both with and without symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Symptoms of PTSD include:
* Nightmares about the traumatic event
* Difficulty sleeping
* Feeling tense, on-guard, and easily startled
* Avoiding situations that remind you of the traumatic event
* Feeling irritable and easily angered, often about everyday things
* Difficulty remembering or concentrating

Veterans who are exposed to combat often experience some symptoms of PTSD. This study seeks to understand the factors that promote PTSD risk and coping after exposure to combat. We believe that this study will advance the understanding of PTSD and lead to better and more accurate diagnosis.

Hverager�i is a small town of about 1,700 inhabitants that lies some 45 km east of Reykjav�k. This friendly little community sits on top of a highly active geothermal field which provides heat for hundreds of greenhouses where fruit, flowers and vegetables are produced throughout the year. Even bananas grow in these greenhouses! The name Hverager�i means 'hot springs garden.' Geothermal energy is Hverager�i's lifeblood, and you probably won't find such a natural wonder in the middle of a populated area anywhere else in the world. Nearby you will find an even more geothermally active site: Gufudalur, the lovely 'Steam Valley' behind the town. This whole valley is full of hot springs, geysers, mud pots, fumaroles and steaming vents.
Our host is the Rehabilitation and Health Clinic which is a part of the Nature Health Association of Iceland. Every year approximately 2,000 patients and other guests enjoy their diverse rehabilitation programs, which are focused on an approach that builds self-confidence and personal responsibility for the patients' own health. The Clinic has earned a solid reputation, both in Iceland and internationally, since its foundation in 1955 for personal and effective care of patients. It is the oldest and one of the two most important rehabilitation clinics in Iceland.
The Natural Health Association has a horticultural and environmental department, including forestry, gardening, and greenhouses, which is where the international volunteers will work most of the time. The nature of the work depends largely on weather conditions, which can change quickly.

We are seeking depressed and healthy bisexual men and women for online research on how people of different sexual orientations and gender identities experience common symptoms of depression. This research will help us discover if there are any LGBT-specific aspects of the experience of depression, and we are particularly interested in the bisexual perspective - a perspective that rarely gets attention in LGBT psych research. At the end of this study, you have the opportunity to have the researchers donate $5 in their names to one of eight charities, for issues ranging from epilepsy to cancer to HIV/AIDS to the humane treatment of animals.

Volunteers will complete questionnaires online that will take approximately 5-10 minutes. The questionnaires ask about depression symptoms, sexuality, social & community support, outness and therapy. The questionnaires are completely anonymous - no identifying information about you will ever be collected, and you don't need to contact the researchers to begin. You definitely DO NOT need to be out of the closet to anyone to participate!

Sai Gon Shelters for Orphans is a project run by the Women's Charity Association. Each shelter cares for about 20-30 orphan children (6-14 years old) from surrounding districts. All these children have disadvantaged situations, they might have relatives but cannot stay with them because of hard economic conditions therefore, and they stay in the orphanage from Monday - Saturday but on Sunday's most of the girls spend the day with relatives.
The volunteers will organize educational activities and entertainment activities such as dancing and singing with them. The group can also organize games for the girls and help to improve their English.

Special requirements: Interest and motivation for working with children in difficult situation.

Department of Urology and Reproductive Medicine is currently enrolling men 26 years old and up who experience symptoms of problems with ejaculation. You may qualify for the study if you are unable to ejaculate (cum) at all, it takes you a long time to ejaculate, you experience decrease force of ejaculation and/or decrease volume (amount) of ejaculate. Men with premature ejaculation DO NOT qualify for this study.

If you experience any of the above symptoms and believe you have low testosterone (you feel tired, low energy, problems with erections, Low sex drive, little or no morning erections) please contact our study coordinator to enroll in the study and have your testosterone checked.

The study involves a series of seven visits, a non-invasive ultrasound with no known side effects, bloods test with a minimal amount of blood drawn, and questionnaires. Only men with ejaculatory dysfunction and confirmed low testosterone are being enrolled in this study.

Older Adults (65+) Wanted for Paid Research Study (Upper East Side)

The Emotion Regulation Laboratory at Hunter College is looking for volunteers (age 65 and older) to participate in a study to better understand how emotions are processed. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a noninvasive method that will be used to measure brain activity as participants complete computerized tasks. EEG is recording using an electrode cap that is worn on the head. We use a small amount of gel that is inserted into the cap to aid in the EEG recording. After the experiment participants can wash their hair (we have a sink, shampoo, and hair dryer). Participants will also be asked to complete several brief questionnaires prior to participating in the study to determine if participants are eligible to participate. Those who are not eligible will be compensated $10 for completing questionnaires. During your visit you may be asked to give saliva samples (approximately 3 to 4 times per hour). This study involves 1 visit to the laboratory with a total of 3 hours of participation. All responses will remain completely confidential. Participants who are eligible to participate will be compensated $50 for their participation.

Help researchers learn more about the effects of medication during the menstrual cycle!

We are seeking women 18 to 40 years of age who are taking Zoloft (Sertraline) or Lithium and are not on hormonal birth control. The purpose of this study is to look at the effects of the menstrual cycle on medication levels.

What will happen?

If you are eligible to participate in this study, there will be two 45-minute study visits. The visits include a blood draw and interview. Participants will receive a $20 Metrocard after the first visit and $80 after the completion of the second visit for participation in this study. Additional visits may be requested, and participants will receive $40 for additional visits beyond the initial two visits. No medications will be given as part of this study.

Are you interested in helping research learn more about antidepressant use and pregnancy?

You are eligible for participation if you are 18-42 years old, are pregnant, will be delivering your baby at NYPH, and:

You suffer from depression and are taking an SSRI antidepressant during your last trimester of pregnancy, OR

You suffer from depression and are NOT taking an SSRI antidepressant during your second or third trimester of pregnancy, OR

You are NOT depressed and are NOT taking an SSRI during your pregnancy.

Participation in this study includes an in-person interview during the pregnancy, an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) for your baby, and 3 phone call sessions after you give birth. A neonatal assessment that is routinely done by NYPH staff will also be included.

I enjoy watching football and cooking on the grill. I am in dire need of a transplant. Kidney disease runs in my family and I have it also. It has taken the life of my father and uncle. Reforestation activities in the Solheimar Eco-village

Solheimar is a sustainable community where about 100 people live and work together. It was founded in 1930 by Sesselja Hreind�s Sigmundsd�ttir (1902-1974). Solheimar community emphasizes on the growth and development of man and nature. The social emphasis is that different individuals are offered variable opportunities to work, live and socialize.
The activity in Solheimar is versatile. In the village, there are organic greenhouses, both for vegetable cultivation and the only organic forestry in Iceland. There is also a shop/gallery in Solheimar, a caf�, a bakery, guesthouses and many art venues throughout the year. There are six workshops in the village: a candle workshop, ceramics, weaving, carpentry, fine art atelier and an herbal workshop that makes soaps, creams, paper, etc.
In Solheimar you will find a church, a sculpture garden, an arboretum, sports hall, gym and a swimming pool, a music garden, an art gallery and during the summer and for Advent a cultural festival with different venues; music, fine art, theater etc. The Eco-center Sesseljuhus was opened in 2002 where most conferences, meetings and other gatherings are held both for the village and visitors. Today, S�lheimar (the home of the sun) is a charming village renowned for its international, artistic and ecological atmosphere, which prides itself on its varied cultural, social and sporting activities. The village is only a one-hour drive from Reykjavik. The volunteers have free access to the swimming pool and the gym.
The volunteers will be working in the �lur Forestry Centre (the only organic reforestation centre in Iceland). We will help the workers to take care and transplant trees and to do some actual reforestation work in the surroundings. Other tasks may arise depending on the needs of the community.
