First assignment will be simple and will only require everyone to have a quarter. We will choose the emptiest business in the area and each will deposit one quarter in a single filed line. Everyone outside will wonder why so many people are going in and the people inside will wonder why everyone's coming in and not ordering anything but just leaving a quarter. media will show. Looking for over 100 to demonstrate how We the People can influence the economy. Clever no? And if 100 people come we will have made the small empty business 25 bucks for the day.

Feel free to break out that tooth fairy costume you wore for Halloween :P

Each month we send out a CD to people who are blind or visually impaired. The CD contains news (both general & vision related) and all kinds of short stories from funny to educational to true. We are looking people out there who would like to take 2- 10 minutes and read a short story or news piece at home and record it on your PC. Everyone who works on the CD are volunteers as this is a non profit venture. We have several people who do this each month but they are sounding kind of stale so we are wanting new people and new sounds. It doesn't matter if you don't have an a powerful theatrical voice we welcome all.

If you are interested then please reply because we can use all. Just let us know what kind of voice you have. The stories range in length and difficulty and NO they aren't of an erotic nature or sold for profit

Let us know if you have a microphone on your computer ? know how to record wav files and convert them to mp3 files ? it's easy if you don't as I can send some simple instructions.

Thank you for you time.

** Gain valuable counseling experience! (Manhattan)

Gain experience you can’t get anywhere else while you help people who are experiencing some form of personal crisis--from a bad day to a broken heart to a traumatic loss or depressive illness.

Volunteer on Samaritans 24-hour crisis response hotline and provide emotional support to those who feel depressed, in crisis or suicidal and need someone to talk to. The work is challenging, the training intensive and the experience rewarding! And you'll gain experience that can help you get into grad school, make a career change or simply grow more yourself!

Samaritans hotline volunteers develop personal and professional skills that have helped them land jobs in the public and private sector (mental health, public health, education, etc.) as well as get into some of the most respected social work, psychology and other related grad programs in the country (NYU, Columbia, Hunter, Princeton, Berkeley, etc.)!

We are currently seeking volunteers who can donate one morning or afternoon shift a week plus one overnight shift a month. Volunteers must be at least 21; have good listening and communication skills and be able to make a six-month commitment after training. No experience necessary.

To learn more about becoming a Samaritans volunteer, come to an orientation session! The next orientation nights are on Monday, November 23; Tuesday, December 1; and Wednesday, December 9 (with a few additional dates if you can't make one of these). The next hotline volunteer training class begins early this Winter.

For additional information and to attend an orientation session, email your full name, phone number and residential street address to samaritansnycvol@aol.com or call (212) 673-3041 to receive a Volunteer Information Packet by mail. (In your message, please mention Craigslist/Code S.) We look forward to hearing from you!

**If you or someone you know is depressed, in crisis or feeling suicidal, call Samaritans non-religious, confidential 24-hour crisis hotline at (212) 673-3000. If you have any of the above symptoms of COPD, it's time to see your doctor. The earlier this disease is diagnosed and treated, the better your chances are at arresting further damage.

If you are diagnosed with COPD, there are different treatments available, depending on how severe your symptoms are. Treatment can and does improve quality of life for many people. While the disease is not reversible, it can be slowed and actions taken to improve breathing. The number one thing you can do to improve your condition if you haven't already is to QUIT SMOKING. If you don't, the disease will progress faster, and the treatments won't help as much as they would if you were smoke free.

Treatment for COPD includes:
copd hypnosis stop smoking hypnotism quit smoking hypnotic therapy smoking cessation hypnotism anxiety hypnotist habit phobia ibs ocd
Bronchodilators. Short-acting bronchodilators last 4 to 6 hours with each dose and are used on an as needed basis.

COPD - Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease - symptoms, causes ...

aka Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COLD). Medical Revising Author: George Schiffman, MD ... What are the symptoms of COPD? How is COPD diagnosed?

cough

sputum (mucus) production

shortness of breath, especially with exercise

wheezing(a whistling or rattle type noise) when you breathe in

tightness in the chest

Long-acting bronchodilators last about 12 hours and are used daily. Because bronchodilators are inhaled, the medicine goes directly into the lungs, where it's needed.

Inhaled glucocorticosteroids are steriods prescribed to some COPD patients to help reduce inflammation of the airways. A doctor may try them on a person for 6 weeks to 3 months initially to see if they are of any help.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a program of combined exercise, disease management counseling and training to help the person become more active and do what they can to slow the progression of symptoms.

Oxygen treatment is used when the patient has severe COPD symptoms, known usually at this point as emphysema. The oxygen level in the blood is too low, which leaves the person quite breathless. Inhaling oxygen will help them get enough oxygen and there will be less difficulty breathing. Depending on the need of the person, a doctor may advise using oxygen for part of the day, or all of the time.

Surgery is sometimes recommended when other treatments have not provided any relief.

COPD symptoms can worsen very quickly. When this happens, people may find that breathing suddenly becomes much more difficult; they may get a fever; experience more coughing and sputum that has changed colors. Be sure to get in touch with your doctor if this happens to you.

If you experience any of these symptoms, seek emergency help:

You have trouble talking or walking

You have a very fast or irregular heartbeat

Your lips or fingernails are gray or blue

Your breathing is fast and hard, even after you've used your medications

It's a good idea to put together a list which includes the numbers of your doctor and hospital, as well as what medications you're taking. Make sure you have the numbers of people who can take you to the doctor also, if necessary. Put this list in a central location, such as on the refrigerator. Let other family members know that it's there.
COPD is the 4th leading cause of death in the United States and around the world.

Material for this article was obtained from information about COPD at The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Website. NHLBI is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Smoking is not an easy thing to try to quit, not that I have ever tried. I've never been a smoker, but, as I've seen many friends and family members struggle with their nicotine addiction, I know it isn't easy to quit smoking.
Now, more than ever, is a great time to quit especially because there are so many products out there to help you deal with your addiction. The hard part is finding the one that works for you. Trial and error is probably the best way to figure out which product will suppress your addiction.
In order to help you figure out where to start, I decided to look at which products are popular among our users. Prescription medications Chantix and Zyban topped the list, followed closely by the Nicotine Patch. One of the most innovative products on the list is ZeroSmoke, a pr oduct that uses magnets to create a pressure point on the ear stimulating the production of neurotransmitters in the brain which eliminate the desire to smoke. Other popular products include Nicorette Gum, Nicotine Gum and the Nicotine Inhaler.
Do you know of any products to help quit smoking that didn't show up on our list? If so, please tell us about them. Try searching for products to quit smoking on AOL Search or check out AOL Shopping.

If you take this quiz, The 1City Youth Project may win a Grant!! (Bedford-Stuyvesant)

The 1City Youth Project is a Brooklyn-based non-profit organization that has been providing free activities for at-risk youth in grades 4 to 12 for the past 20 years. You can see pictures of our kids at www.myspace.com/1citythrowback. Although we have been in existence for 20 years and have served more than 2000 kids, 1City is run 100% by volunteers. The Founder serves as the Executive Director and she is also a volunteer.

1City is not funded, so we are often on the look-out for creative ways to make money to support our programs. We came across a competition sponsored by Liberty Mutual called the “Responsible Sports Competition”. In a nutshell, it requires participants to take an online course and a quiz.

Once you take the quiz, you credit your score to The 1City Youth Project. Organizations who get the highest number of “credited scores” will be eligible to receive a $2,500 grant.

1City is a small program, so we are looking to recruit as many people as possible to take the quiz and credit their score to our organization. Some of us have taken the test without doing the course because the questions are very easy.

We really hope that you will be inspired to help 1City gain funding for its programs. The whole process takes about two to three minutes of your time and the deadline is November 30th! Please email us once you have credited your score to 1City so that we can let you know whether we won or not. We will also add you to our “Circle of Support” Mailing List so that anytime a similar competition comes up, we’ll let you know so that you can vote for us!!! (smile). COS members will also be advised when we register for our youth programs so that they can pass it along to interested parents. Following are the instructions (they look long, but they are not!) Thanks for your time!!!

HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS

1. GO TO:
http://www.responsiblesports.com/community_grants/community_grant_details.aspx

2. Under How to Participate, click where it says “Responsible Sports Parenting Online Course”. If you are a coach (or aspire to be one), you may click “Responsible Coaching Online Course”. These courses are about five minutes long.

3. If you want to try your hand at the quiz without doing the online course, you can also just click “Responsible Sports Parenting Quiz” or “Responsible Coaching Quiz”. The questions are pretty easy.

4. If you are taking the quiz first, click the quiz links listed in number 3 above

5. At the bottom of the next screen, you will see – Take the Quiz

6. Answer the 10 Questions. If you answered them incorrectly, you won’t be able to get credit until you answer all correctly.

7. Once you have answered all of the questions, you will be taken to a screen where you will be prompted to enter your name, your email address and a password. After you have entered this information, click Submit Quiz & Continue.

8. The next screen will say “Verification Needed” At that point, you will need to check your email for an email from Responsible Sports.

9. Once you get the email, you will see a link that reads, “Verify My Quiz”. Please click that link.

10. A screen will pop up that reads, “All-Star Email Verification”. Click “Continue”

11. On the next screen you will see “Support Your Organization. Credit Them with Your Point”. For “City”, type in Brooklyn and then select NY for state. Click “Go”

12. You will then see “Search for Your Sports Organization”. In the box next to Organization Name, type 1City Youth Project. Click “Go”.

13. On the next screen, please find The 1City Youth Project in the list of named organizations. Next to 1City’s name, click “Select This Sports Organization”.

ALL DONE!!!

Support for disabled children on Bali Island (Volunteer in Indonesia)

Support for disabled children on Bali Island
December 5 - December 19, 2009
March 20 - April 3, 2010

Bali Island is a densely populated island, with population more that 3 million people all together. The population is almost all Indonesian, 95% are of Balinese Hindu descent and could be describe as ethic Balinese. Bali is also a tiny, extremely fertile and dramatically mountainous island. It is only 140 km by 80 km. The tourism boom, which started in 1970s has brought many changes and has helped pay for improvement in roads, telecommunication, education and health. Though tourism has had some marked effects, Bali’s unique culture and custom has proved to be remarkably island. Bali disabled School was founded with the aim to cater for the needs of disabled children and youth in Bali and the surrounding areas. Moreover, this school is also aimed to encourage and motivate the disable children and youth to struggle for their future. We would like to host foreign volunteers because we believe that their interaction with the children, during education and vocational classes and other therapeutic activities will be of great benefit as our students have little or no chances to meet and live with people from other cultures. The intercultural dimension that their presence will generate will also be welcomed and valued by the local staffs. The support that the volunteers will give to our teaching staff, particularly those teaching English, will be invaluable.
The role of the volunteers will be assisting local teacher in classes like teaching basic conversation in English, helping teacher in giving training on physical activities of the disabled students like making simple handicrafts, playing, doing simple sport etc . Volunteers' influence on students is expected to create a sense of knowledge of other realities of the disabled kids and other cultures in a way that improves their own perception of themselves and what they can achieve. Also to open the mind of international volunteers that the disabled students also need attention to face their future. It will also give opportunity for the international volunteers about the treatment that should be done by the families of disabled children.

Please Take My Online Survey!

Dear Friends,

My name is Lisa Harris and I am a current doctoral candidate at the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University. As part of my second year project and dissertation, I am conducting a research study under the supervision of Dr. Lawrence Josephs entitled “Personality Characteristics and Attitudes Towards Infidelity in Gay and Lesbian Individuals,” IRB #100208. As such, I am asking for volunteers to complete an online survey.

If you would like to participate in this study, you will need to complete the 2 steps as listed below:
1) Consent Form: You will need to agree to participate, by clicking the “Yes” button on the Online Informed Consent Form. You can access the Online Informed Consent Form by clicking the link at the bottom of this email. The consent form will explain the study in greater detail, tell you about your involvement, and ask you to provide your name and email address should you agree to participate. This information will be used strictly to obtain consent but will not be attached to your responses in the survey.

2) Survey: At the end of the Consent Form, you will be redirected to the study itself. This confidential survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and will ask you questions about how you would act in hypothetical situations, your personal relationship history, your personality, and your background information. During the survey you will also be asked to read a brief statement describing a situation and explain how it makes you feel. Please don't overthink your answers, just go with your gut and keep it simple.

If you are not 18 years old, unfortunately, you cannot participate in this study. If you have any questions after reading the Online Informed Consent form or completing the survey, please do not hesitate to contact me at lisaeharris@gmail.com.

By the way, please feel free to forward this email to anyone and everyone you know. The more respondents with greater diversity, the better!

Thank you for your help! Your time and energy are extremely appreciated.

Sincerely,

If you really volunteered 25,000 hrs of your life you would be 543 yrs old.
If you are going to keep posting your stupid posts for people to take care of your useless life at least stick to reasonable lies."SPINE STUFF"? "1 & 1/3 kidney surgeoned out"? what the hell does that mean and if it were true then idiot you would be on dialysis.
You post here all of the time looking for people to be your virtual slave and to straighten out your messes, give you money, cook your food, give you EVERYTHING,running errands?,build you stuff, massage (ewwwww!) you, housekeeping (just what the hell does the HHA DO?),SOMEONE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A SCOOTER?!?!?!?! (THOSE THINGS ARE $$$ FOOL, just who the hell do you think has that kind of money this day and financial time?), fix your meals (again just WHAT are those HHA'S doing with you?) and all of the rest of the slave duties that you mention in your ridiculous posts.
Your just a nut case with a few unfortunate medical ailments who is too damn lazy to take care of himself. The fact that you think that your a "young sexy manly hunk" shows the crazy mindset you have. There are paraplegics out there who take care of themselves, have a job and have a real life without expecting other people to take care of them from the minute they wake up and every second in-between. And they actually NEED (and deserve) the assistance.
Its hard to believe that anybody would actually volunteer to slave for you and fill your ridiculous requests.
We know that you will keep posting here but these things needed to be said.
And as for suggestions on how to improve your posts-STOP ASKING FOR EVERYBODY TO DO EVERYTHING FOR YOU!!!!! Times are hard and people have kids/family to take of of and devote their time and money to.
BTW,You can't get your own butt in and outta bed dude? There's nothing sexy about not being able to do that.
People beware of vampires like this, there are far more deserving people who truly need and deserve your help.

Ideas needed to raise money for this little girl, If you can help in any way please let me know. Here is her story. Thank You. Hi everyone my name is Sophia and im 2 yrs old almost 3. I have a rare and serious condition called aplastic anemia, which means I have almost complete bone marrow failure. The doctors say that I will not survive a bone marrow transplant from on outside donor, and I am really sick. So the only option to save my life is if my mommy has a special procedure, to have an HLA identical sibling, so I can get a transplant from my sibling to save my life, and cure me. But insurance doesn't cover this, and it is a LOT of money, so we need some help! If you want to know how you can help, you can make a donation to Sophia's fund and help me get better. Please make contributions to Sophia Tavolacci and mail it to Sophia's Fund, P.O. BOX 770423 Woodside, NY 11377 There's no amount to small, every penny counts and could help save my life. If you cant help with a donation, please pray for me to get better. BIG Hugs-Sophia PS- I have my own web site http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/sophiatavolacci

I'd rather wait a few years
of my life.

I walked 2 NYC marathons, 1997

& 1999.

Then on thanksgiving friday

1999, I was hit & run, by a

car.

In 2005, a ceiling fell, on top

of me.

In 2008, a wall fell, on me.

I've been robbed, mugged, a few

times.

Also, 1 1/3 of my kidneys, got

surgeoned out. I am verrry lucky to not need dialysis.

my creatine levels are going down from their high dangerous levels.

So, just in case you got lost

Hi everyone!

Last year I volunteered to serve food on Thanksgiving in Brooklyn. It was a great experience! I am looking to volunteer again this year. I have absolutely no plans for the day so I don't mind traveling to any borough or even New Jersey. Ideally I would like to serve food again to an underserved area again but will do any type of volunteering to celebrate the season and share my good fortune with others! I hope to hear from someone soon.

Please Join Our Youth Program's Circle of Support! (All Brooklyn)

We are looking for committed individuals of all ages to join the 1City Youth Project's Circle of Support ("COS"). To learn more about The 1City Youth Project, please visit our website at www.1cityyouth.org.
Our desire is to help 1City gain much needed recognition and even funds so that it can keep its programs free for all of the kids who have come to depend upon us for the past 20 years.

1City constantly seeks to find grants and awards that it is eligible to apply for and often times, we come across award opportunities that require us to get people to vote for us. The more people we get to vote for 1City, the greater our chances are to get the award. We are based in New York City and don't really have that many people to help. By creating the Circle, we have enlarged our network of people who can help us with their vote and have increased our chances of winning the money or resources that we desperately need.

We will periodically send requests like these to members of the Circle. We will also send information about our programs; special events or needs that we have. Those who are inclined to help can - but what we really need is for everyone in the Circle to commit to forwarding the email to everyone in their address book and pasting the information on their MySpace or Facebook accounts. For us, it increases visibility. For you, it is a chance to help a deserving program from the comfort of your own home.

The first email is scheduled to go out on November 20th. If you are interested, please respond with the words, "Add me to the Circle" and we will add you right away. You will also be listed as one of our supporters for our 20th anniversary celebration in May.

Thank you for your time and for your assistance and please feel free to encourage others to join the Circle too! Other people may join the circle by sending an email to onecity2007@yahoo.com with the subject "ADD ME TO THE CIRCLE". We are asking that everyone tell us their first and last name (even if it is fictitious).
The organization is due to start in July, 2010 and will be a spinoff of The 1City Youth Project (www.1cityyouth.org).
The Athletic Organization will not only include competitive sports offerings, but it will also include academic enrichment and tutoring, leadership workshops and mentoring for all of its participants.

We need someone todraft the articles of incorporation (and we will file it at our expense); advise on other documents that need to be filed - such as by-laws; review contracts for services we will require (such as insurance) and help us develop the paperwork necessary for participant and volunteer applications. We are looking to "open" the new program in July, 2010.

Nearly all of this work can be done "virtually", but the candidate will be able to schedule time with the organization's founder in order to see what her vision is for the program and to give advice where practical. It would be great if the attorney would be willing to serve on the inaugural board of directors.

Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter to the attention of Dr. Leisa Williams. Phone calls will not be accepted regarding this opportunity. Thank you!

As you are well aware the community of Bushwick Brooklyn is poverty stricken, with most family incomes coming in or below the poverty level.

Christmas is right around the corner and while most of us are happy to sit back and enjoy the holiday, many families do not have the funds to purchase presents and least of all to take children to visit Santa himself. So our Parent Teacher Association will have a Santa visit for the first time!

We are on a limited budget and have funds for the Santa, and decor but need help with the toys we would like him to hand out. At the beginning of the school year we started requesting help from major stores but are just now receiving the denial notices due to the recession. We are asking you to please help us give back to the community. There are currently 560 students in our school many of which are siblings. Donations for this event can be made in many ways. Our staff is accessible for pick up or delivery of toys and/or gift cards.
