Be a catalyst. Teach science.

The NYC Teaching Fellows program is recruiting talented, dedicated individuals to become teachers who raise student achievement in the New York City classrooms that need them most. A good teacher can mean the difference between a student graduating from high school or not, between a student reaching for college or not. Yet, too often, our highest need students are the ones who do not have enough good teachers. Become a NYC Teaching Fellow and help to change this reality.

Through this program, a Fellow can become a full-time teacher in a New York City public school within a few months of enrolling in the Fellowship. By teaching in schools and subject areas that are traditionally hard to staff, NYC Teaching Fellows concentrate their talents in the areas where they can have the most impact.

Rather than completing a traditional teacher education program prior to entering the classroom, Fellows engage in an intensive pre-service training program and then continue their education through a subsidized Master's degree program while teaching at a New York City public school. No previous teaching experience or education coursework is necessary.

NYC Teaching Fellows come from a wide range of backgrounds and careers including science and research, finance, advertising, non-profit, healthcare, law, and academia. You could be a recent college graduate or have worked in an industry for many years. Through the Fellows program, you can use your experience, knowledge, and achievements to positively affect the lives of students. Fellows teach a variety of subject areas based on their qualifications.

In NYC public schools, there is an especially critical need for science teachers, and by becoming a Teaching Fellow, you can join a group of motivated and energetic professionals who are answering the call to teach science in traditionally underserved communities. Today, 11% of all teachers and 18% of all science teachers in the New York City public school system have come through the Teaching Fellows program.

The Fellowship is now accepting applications for the June 2010 program. The Fellowship is competitive and interview spots are limited, so we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible. While the size and subject composition of the June 2010 program are still to be determined, applications are reviewed and interviews are granted on a rolling basis. The Fellowship is now accepting applications for the June 2010 program.

Apply today at www.nycteachingfellows.org.

The Fellowship includes:

A competitive starting salary ($45,530 - $54,000) plus full benefits

A subsidized Masters degree in Education

Intensive pre-service training with a non-taxable stipend to help offset living costs

A professional network of talented and committed teachers

Possible eligibility for an AmeriCorps Education Award

Article One Partners is a web-based patent research company that searches for prior art. Prior art refers to the entire body of publicly available information that can potentially invalidate a patent by showing that its ideas were known by the date of invention of the patent. Invalidating prior art shows that an invention described in the claims of a patent existed before a date of invention. Prior art can also be used to establish the strength of a patent.

The Studies list patents with a description of the technology and the historic date. Patents are granted because the U.S. Patent Office concludes that the description of the technology in the patent is the first in the world. But the Patent Office is limited in being able to research worldwide public information. Article One offers a citizen’s review to check whether the patent description is the first. If you show an earlier description, you can earn $50k and high profile press as a state of the art researcher for recognition in industry and career building.

The public written information is called Prior Art. The historic date by which the Prior Art must be dated is called “Latest Date for Prior Art.” Each Study links to a patent or patents, and provides a written description of the technology and the latest date for Prior Art.

- Reduce the monopoly pricing you pay for products covered by patents which should not have been granted, help to reform U.S. patent law – and get compensated for your efforts and the value of your knowledge!

Hydrogeology Sales and Marketing Position (New York Metro Area)

This is a unique opportunity for self driven and motivated individuals to represent a rapidly growing hydrogeologic technology company. BESST, Inc. is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay area (San Rafael, CA) and possesses an exclusive license with the USGS for advanced technologies that allow for the measurement and analysis of flow and water chemistry within a water well, under real operating conditions, without removal of the pump. These technologies are small enough so that they can pass through the annulus between the pump column/bowls/motor and casing. The data collected can then be used to calculate a depth-discrete, or zonal, flow profile and chemical mass balance of water entering the well . BESST has also developed other miniature technologies for ambient flow and video inspection of production wells, injection wells and ASR wells that are capable of passing through the annulus of the well in a catheter-like fashion. Together, this suite of technologies constitutes a competitor-disruptive technology base of great technical and economic value to municipalities, private water companies, agricultural interests and mining companies. The data generated from these profiling services also provides unique hydrogeologic consulting opportunities that are specific to well and well field optimization, geochemical facies evaluation and stratigraphic control.

We seek individuals who are confident and comfortable presenting to, and conversing with, individuals and groups of engineers and scientists. Successful applicants will explain how these technologies work, how they will save the client money in the short and long term and how these savings can be redirected to other infrastructure needs. The qualified individuals will ideally possess a solid background in hydrogeology and will demonstrate excellent personal communication skills. This is a commission based position but with all office, travel and communication expenses covered by BESST, Inc. The position has the potential to grow into a full salary based position or into a combination of base salary with commission.

Please respond in confidence to: Michelle Whitman (mwhitman@besstinc.com).

The Bone Cell Biology and Imaging Laboratory at the Hospital for Special Surgery (www.hss.edu) investigates the molecular mechanisms which control bone biology in normal and damaged bone. In order to provide a direct view of the molecular and cellular events in living, intact bone, we develop and apply cutting-edge musculoskeletal molecular imaging for real-time visualization in pre-clinical models as well as in patients. Our current research focus is on the identification and characterization of osteo-angiogenic regulation pathways post bone fracture/defect as well as on the development of imaging methods that permit visualization of bone cell activity in living subjects. The laboratory conducts interdisciplinary, team-driven research bringing together students, scientists, physician-scientists and physicians. The lab is also engaged in close collaborations with other research groups in New York City. Our long-range goal is to devise novel treatments and imaging protocols for patients with impaired bone integrity due to trauma, genetic alteration, or cancer.

To support our young, highly motivated team, we are looking for a full-time research technician to plan and execute experiments in the areas of molecular biology, histology, animal models, and imaging. Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or related discipline is required and previous laboratory experience desired. We seek to immediately fill this position. To apply, please send cover letter and full CV to Dr. Philipp Mayer-Kuckuk, E-mail: MayerKuckukLab@gmail.com
