Riis Settlement seeks a part-time Technology Specialist to provide academic support to participants in grades K-7 and 9-12, respectively. The Technology Specialist is responsible for developing lesson plans that enhance the monthly theme as well as teaching basic computer skills and software to all participants. S/He should create a positive learning experience for participants using project-based lessons, games, and activities. Successful candidates will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrate customer service skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to function responsibly with minimum direct supervision. The days and hours of work will vary; candidates must have the ability to work between 15 to 20 hours per week.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
• Using the monthly curriculum, creates stimulating lessons or games that enhance grade appropriate learning. Lessons should be hands-on and project-based.
• Integrates Kidspiration and the monthly theme into daily lessons.
• Works under the supervision of the Director of Education as well as consult with the Network Administrator and Program Coordinators.
• Be able to modify lessons for participants in grades K-7 and 9-12.
• Responsible for assisting patrons with basic use of lab’s public computers and ensuring computer users comply with policies and guidelines relating to use of the computers and the Internet.
• Uses excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
• Ability to teach basic computer software to program participants of all ages, including Kidspiration, Toon Boom, and other software as requested.
• Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

Statement of Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

• Must have knowledge of computers such as basic hardware troubleshooting, Windows XP and Vista, Firewalls, Switches, Hubs, etc... Knowledge of Microsoft Office is strongly preferred.
• Some knowledge of cognitive, social, physical and emotional development as it pertains to a specific age group.
• A minimum of one year work experience in a non-profit youth or tutoring capacity.
• Energetic about children and education.
• Comprehensive understanding of lab procedures, which may be attained through on the job training.
• Ability to learn and sufficiently operate the lab’s computers in order to assist patrons with the online catalog, electronic databases, the Internet, and other computer applications.
• Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public on all age levels, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and others.
• Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.
• Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.
• Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.

Tools and Equipment used:
Lab computer system, personal computer and printer, calculator.
