She needs a new home because she is not adjusting well to my small studio in a busy building. She barks at noises in the hall, especially other dogs, and since there is little soundproofing but heavy traffic in the hallways it's a big problem. She would do better with more space and less noise.

Merlin was rescued 2 months ago from the February chill where he was found sleeping on a cardboard box :(

He's one and a half but came off the street (emaciated) and still weighing 12lbs. He's absolutely ADORABLE!
Merlin is very playful, silly and loves his scratching board (he NEVER scratches my couch!).

He'll keep your toes warm while you're at the computer and wake you up with his wet nose to let you know it's feeding time.
If he wants attention he'll sprawl out on his back in the middle of the room with his feet in the air and give you the most adorable look.

Merlin is up to date with his vaccines and tested negative for FIV/FeLV.

Goliath is the most unusual dog, he has been abused and abandoned by original owner, who wanted to chase him out of his property by throwing rocks at him. This only accomp[lished one thing - got him huge sores which got infected. At this point, he decided to drive his dog 15 miles away from his house, so he can not find his way back again. He was out there for 2 weeks, at which time I came to Mexico, and asked about him. When I found out what happened, I went to search for him.
The search went out with no results, and I was almost giving up. Suddenly, at our last stop, I noticed a shadow of a dog, so emaciated, yet running a hundred mile an hour to reach us, his beloved people!!!
I could not believe my eyes, I was crying from joy and from pain seeing him , so skinny and sick, yet so happy!! It was an incredible moment.
Goliath was adopted by my friend, Joanne, the kindest and most beautiful person who gave him a home and 2 sisters. He was living with them happily for a year, untilll recently she discovered he was loosing weight and after many exams at the vet she discovered, that only one of his lungs is working. Life or death, she could not see him suffer anymore. Tomorrow is the surgery, and the vet said he might die on the table or they might not fix the problem. However, there is nothing else to do. Goliath is only 2 and a half, but we believe he is a really old soul.

Bella became a part of my life at 5 weeks of age on August 10, 2006. As a baby I exposed her to plenty of people and the 2 dogs that my mom has which are a cairin terrier and a cockapoo. It was a joint effort between my exboyfriend and I in making sure that she was taken care of. I would take her to his house before school everyday, go to work through the work release program, and go pick her up afterwards to have her all night. She had all of her routine shots done and she was spayed. After graduation her and I moved into an apartment right around her 1st birthday. Since our time living there she has adjusted but not very well. She is crate trained, loves going outside and taking walks but it does take her a few minutes after walking to understand the leash concept. She doesn't mind a bath as long as you talk to her while you're doing it. She likes to chase reflections. She is very playful and has a high energy level but knows when to settle down at night. She has never been introduced to young children so I wouldnt reccomend her to anyone with them. She is a little jumpy but if you repeat "down" she understands. She has developed an anxiety when i leave the house. She has definitely been my best friend through all of my hardships that i've endured over these past few years. She is not agressive towards strangers but is definitely not trusting of them. She loves water whether its just to drink or if she can go in for a dip. I've always been too timid to let her off the leash because i've never had a fenced in area and I wouldn't want her not to come back but I am 100% positive that she would enjoy some kind of fenced in area to relax in. She really is a good dog with a big heart and she always wears a smile. She is very photogenic and loves the camera!!

BC (also goes by the name Chico) is looking for a loving companion to share a new home with. He was rescued from ACC after being dropped off by a family who was moving and would not be able to keep him. Although BC received an outstanding review at the ACC, showing no signs of temperament or abuse and arriving in excellent health, his time was running out unless he could find a home. I couldn't let this happen so I brought him into my home until he could find a permanent residence.

While under my care as a foster dog, BC has proved very receptive to positive engagement with people. He follows simple commands, listens, is house trained, and quick to adapt to new environments. I was also happy to discover how quickly BC responded to obedience training, learning to respect the territory of my roommates and our kitchen. He's a really smart dog and continues to learn more and more as I work with him.

He's also very playful and very sweet. He'll nuzzle you for affection, smile when he's happy, roll over for a belly-rub, and sometimes try to curl up in your lap! He also really enjoys playing catch and will even run along side me while I bike. Overall, he's a total lover. In all the time that we've spent together he's been nothing but loving towards everyone that he's met - in fact, while I walk him in the neighborhood or take him to parks I receive so many complements on how friendly he is.

Honestly, this dog is an excellent companion and really needs a good home. I've raised dogs my whole life and was a little unsure about taking in a pit-mix from the shelter, but fostering BC has been an astounding experience. I'm really impressed with his ability to adapt so quickly and with such positive results.

I took in a cat to pet sit and would NOT return it to the owner, because of the untreated eye problems the cat has, as she is almost blind. She has detached eye lenses in both eyes, and her eyes have 'milked over' similar to glaucoma. I took her to an animal opthomologist, on the South Shore ( there are only 2 on LI ), and was told that she would be able, through surgery to put in artifical lenses. If I had the money I would pay for it myself. However, I have gad three strokes, and 7 different severe illnesses from the WTC site working as a volunteer Rescue and Recovery. I have not worked in over a year, and am living on welfare! No comp and no disability coming in! I am destitute, but I care dearly for this abused animal. The operation for each eye cost $1500.00! I will barter my services as a handyman if necessary to get the funds for the operation. My life is falling apart all around me, and all I can think of is getting surgery for Shera ( I call her the 'Yard Panther') Or if you are an animal lover you can just send donations to CAT SURGERY c/o 10 Benham Court, Centerport, NY, 11721. This is not a scam or sham, this cat really needs help, she is only 5 yeats old! I am a Buddhist, and thus believe in karma! If I get enough money I will get the surgery done, yesterday! She's only 46 lbs so she's on the medium small size and she's good with other dogs and is oh so loving towards the volunteers and everyone she meets at the shelter. She appears to be housetrained and is easygoing on the leash... she just wants to cuddle with you!! Although she hasn't been tested with cats and small kids, we think that because she has such an easy going sweet temperament that she will be fine with them... He�s quite stunning to look at, and no volunteer can pass by his cage without commenting on him. You don�t see dog like this every day, that�s for sure! Larry is a beautiful 4 year old male who was brought in by the police as a seizure... and unfortunately his owner has not come back to claim him and unfortunately he has come down with kennel cough as a result of being stressed at the shelter and now his time has come.
He enjoys balls and squeaky toys and likes being outside in the runs. He�s a responsive dog who knows the leash, seems to have no handling issues, and also appears housetrained . Outside, he wanted to greet other dogs but gave nothing beyond a sniff, and he pulled his handler a little, but mostly due to the fact that he really, really needed to use the bathroom. Still, Larry should go to someone who respects his strength, is A BIG DOG person who knows how to gently train powerful dogs. Larry�s a good guy, and if he finds a forever home with someone who understands him, he�ll be a loyal companion (and probably the best workout buddy) as one could hope for. He weighs 65 pounds

I've seen my share of cat-needs-a-home postings with cute pictures of feline companions but none of them can beat my cat, Fester aka Bo-Bo.

He's been true-blue for many years. He's much like a dog - he's not the type to hide under the bed when company arrives. He's front and center. He eats like a Hoover vacuum (he's sturdy, not fat, mind you. And, I can say it - he's really, really cute. Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition is a small rescue group in the Brooklyn Heights, New York area. We are committed to helping all animals in need of assistance in our neighborhood. We specialize in rescuing abandoned cats and kittens. We DESPERATELY need responsible, caring foster parents to help transition these frightened, traumatized animals when they are first rescued. We always fully 'vet' our cats before placing them, so you would never need to worry about diseases or parasites in your home. The cats are also spayed/neutered.

Because our group does not cage our cats, foster parents are essential to us: without them, we could not rescue cats. Our cats usually stay in foster care for about 1 month. We would need to have at least a 1-3 month commitment, so that we don't 'bounce' the cat from home to home (which is very traumatic for them).

If you would like to give it a try, please contact us. We ask you to fill out an application and allow us to come for a home visit to ensure our feline friends are in a safe environment.

I picked these up at an expo in Hamburg, PA a few years ago. They�re handmade by a family that makes nothing but tanks and cages. They�re ideal for reptiles � built in dimensions better suited to snakes, lizards, and baby turtles. I don�t keep snakes any longer, but these are in my storage closet. Both come with glass covers with handles (not pictured) and are sealed and watertight. They�ll need a cleaning, and as a bonus, I�ll throw in 2 heating rocks and a small Cobra heat pad.

The larger tank measures 30.25� long 12.5� wide and 6.5� high. The smaller tank is 20.5� long 10.5� wide and 6.5� high.

This 2 yr old girl is possibly the sweetest dog you will ever meet. A real little lady with a splendid coat of mocha and almond colored softness. At 50 lbs, she is fit and muscular, a great size for an apt. and very easy to walk on a leash. Angie loves other dogs, and is OK with CATS too. Rescued from a city shelter, where she was very much noticed and loved.

A VOLUNTEER WROTE: Angie is another pretty young pit mix we're thrilled to have met. In the prime of life at 2 years old, and weighing just 50 pounds, Angie first came to us as a stray on March 30th. She has made a great impression so far! She walks easily on her leash, seems to enjoy other dogs and tries to get them to come over to her cage; and (best of all) gives every indication of being housetrained. Those are some pretty awesome credentials for any dog, but Angie gets extra lovebun points for her positive attitude, affectionate manners, and the way she likes to surprise volunteers with the sweetest of doggie kisses. Hi Everyone,

�Snow� gave birth to 7 cute babies on April 22nd. 2 black girls, 4 golden girls and 1 golden boy. They will be ready to go to their new homes on the last week of May.
We Think the biological dad is �Golden� (since the babies are the same color), but actually �Silver� is taking care of them.

Gerbils are very sociable animals and need to be in pairs.

I am not a breeder, just love these little ones....I got carried away and bought too many at the pet store. There has been some mistake in �sexing� them, so that�s why I have this beautiful babies now.
Snow will have more next month, since they mate the same day she gives birth......so expect to see another ad like this in a month. (Don�t worry, Snow and Silver unfortunately will have to be split or spayed)

Free Kittens were a nice idea in another era, but free today buts a kitten in a bad spot when the person getting the cat doesn't have money to pay for vet visits and take proper care of the cat. Like Spay/Neuter. Did you get your cat FREE? A few nights ago there are two 2 week old kittens dying in the pouring rain because an unspayed cat had nowhere else to have her babies. Your FREE kittens may someday be in that mother cat's situation. People love kittens, they will promise you that they will love the kitten and take good care of it. A few months down the road, the cat ought to be spayed or neutered.

The cat becomes an indoor/outdoor cat because of spraying or because the owner believes their cat is entitled to live a "natural" life. This is how the cycle of too many kittens begins and how YOU are adding to it. This is not an environment where a cat can lead a "natural" life. Hell, even we can't live a natural life.

Your cat may mean the world to you - do your cat a favor and get her/him spayed/neutered. You will be doing them a favor and society a favor too. If you ever walked through the CACC and saw all the mothers and the nursing kittens ready to be killed, you would know that this breeding is thoughtless and cruel in the longrun.

DOG BOARDING IN MY HOME

I do cage less dog boarding in my home. I have many years of experience with dogs and puppies of all breeds and sizes. Located on Long Island, I have a backyard with a fence where dogs are allowed to play under my supervision. Dogs are kept inside a safe enivorment, given fresh water at all times, feed and walked three or more times a day. Dogs sleep inside my home and not in crates.

Rates are reasonable.
Transportation can be provided if needed for a small fee.

Mastiff Available For Adoption Or Rescue (NJ)

For those of you who wonder why people say things like "it's a dog's life" or "I wouldn't wish this on a dog", read Xerces' story and weep......The owner of this handsome male Mastiff moved and left him alone in "their" backyard, with no food, shelter or water to speak of. Thanks to a few rainy days, he was able to lap up water from puddles and blades of grass. Kind of makes you wonder about where the word "mankind" came from, doesn't it? Fortunately, despite being abandoned so cruelly, Xerces remains a gentle giant.
After he recovers from his ordeal, he'll be neutered, etc. Mastiffs are not an active breed, so if you like an intimidating- looking dog with a heart of gold, don't mind drool and can afford the food bill, he can work with an apartment, or condo as easily as a house (within reason, of course.)

All of the dogs listed below have been at the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro NJ for far longer than their 90 day limit. The shelter has continued to hold them in the hopes of finding a forever home, but now, it's that "season" and the shelter is filling up fast. "Lucky" Under 1 year young American Pit Bull Terrier Mix, male/Neutered
Lucky basically grew up at the shelter. He came in as a cruelty case. A little pup had to spend many months at the shelter without consistent training or socialization. He needs a very firm, calm, and consistent leader to teach him all the lessons and manners of life. He is very playful and sweet. Once he understands the rules, he should be a very loyal and fun-loving companion. He has such unique and cute ears! Lucky is a young energetic dog who needs room to play, and a playmate to help him burn off some of that extra energy. Tigger is a beautiful brindle female pit bull who came in her owner moved. She told us Tigger was housebroken. We've found her to be nervous about being handled and suspicious of strangers. She needs firm, consistent leadership, so that she will respect her handler so she doesn' t have to protect herself. Once she warms up to you, she can be sweet and affectionate. Randy - a handsome young male brindle pit bull - Randy came to us as a stray. Smart, very playful, mouthy, and active, he needs a home that will provide firm rules and strong leadership and lots of exercise. Randy does not appear to like other dogs, so he should be in a single pet home with no children under their teens. He needs someone who has the time to train and exercise him, not just put him in a yard - no couch potatoes, please. From one of our volunteers: "Randy jumps around in his kennel. All he wants is someone to take him outside. He loves to run around outside to burn off some of that puppy energy. After that, he is very responsive to me. Mickey - A typical young pit bull, Mickey is very active and has a high energy level. With a dominant personality, it's important his new owner establish firm leadership and rules. Mickey is a very smart dog, and will take control of his new family if they don't work on the problem. Mickey was OK with handling and not showing guarding behavior at the shelter and he does best with a handler that he knows is in charge. Gringa is a 5 year old pit who came to us when her owner moved and her new landlord would not allow the dog. She told us Gringa is housebroken and was very protective of her owner. We've found Gringa to be a happy, friendly dog who knows commands and plays nicely with toys. She can be a bossy dog, so she needs an owner who can take charge and understands how to help her avoid over-bonding. No children or other pets, please. Gringa is a very smart and loyal girl. She tends to bond with her owners very strongly. In the past, this has caused her to act protectively over her owner. For that reason, her new owners should socialize her as much as possible by introducing her to new people and new situations. She needs a strong leader(s) who can teach her to not worry about anything and just to chill out. She is very eager to please her people. With right people, she will make a loyal companion. She is very playful (not hyper). She loves to play with tennis balls with the volunteers in an outside dog run at the shelter.

Lady is a very pretty adult female pit bull. Lady is a happy dog, friendly with humans, but not good with other animals. She is OK with petting and attention - not overly needy, but happy with companionship. She is not happy with restraint, but just tries to move away. With basic obedience and leadership exercises, we think she'll do fine in an adult-only home with no other pets, and preferable with a fenced yard. Lady is 5 years old. Sasha - Look at that cute lil' mushy face! That's me - Sasha! Aren't I unique looking? And in case you're wondering, I'm a 4 year old Shar Pei mix. Sadly, my last owners had to bring me to this place when they were moving. So if you walk by me and I seem a little nervous, it's only because I was used to a home for 4 whole years before coming to this noisy place. I wasn’t used to new people or places, and actually had a skin infection when I got here. Don’t worry though – lots of other Shar Peis get this and with the shelter’s help, I’m all healed and I must say my coat is lookin’ healthy and shiny now! I’m already housebroken and OK with children, but I don’t really hang with other dogs. These nice shelter staff and volunteers have worked hard to bring me out of my shell and I love showing off my leash walking skills when they take me for walks. With a patient and calm owner, I think I could make a great addition to your family. I’m not clingy like some other doggies and enjoy my alone time, but I’d also love to spend time with you and learn new things – just go slow with me and I’ll be the sweetest girl! ID 65340 URGENT

Remi - Alright everybody! Make room for me – Remi! I’m a 4 year old Pit Bull Terrier and I just love attention! Can you believe that my former owners just abandoned me when they moved out of their apartment? How mean! Yet despite this, I still remain a sweet and friendly gal.
