This poor girl was brought in by her owners yesterday afternoon with the intent of us euthanizing her. The Vet tech that was to perform the euthanasia called me and asked me to see if I could find placement because she was so sweet and acted like a puppy!

I went to speak to the owners (who were kids themselves) and ask them why they wanted to put their dog to sleep.

She said they took her to the Vet and there was a tumor on one of her mammory glands. I asked if the Vet did any testing and she said he didn�t, that he just told her to bring the dog here so we can put her to sleep!!

I could�ve just screamed. I offered her some options and she had no interest at all in trying to do anything for her dog. I told her I was going to try to find her placement and she said �I�m not taking her back, so do what you want with her�!!!

She is so sweet and lovable we are hoping some one will be able to have her checked out. She may have many more years ahead of her. She is a no concern, and they told me she was great around all people and kids and she liked other dogs too. They had her since she was born!! She is absolutely adorable and weighs 40lbs.

Please consider her, if we don�t have anyone to take her in 48hrs ,she will be put to sleep due to space issues.

They are all related and the males have been neutered so you do not have to worry about their family growing any larger. We also have many toys and nutritional supplements for them and a Pop tent for quality time with them. We would prefer to re-home them all together or at least keep as many of them together as we can since they all grew up together. The oldest are the mother and father who are two years old. Panda is sooo cute, he looks like a toy stuffed animal. And with his black and white markings, he does indeed look like a real panda.. This is a small, roly poly, stout and solid 51 lb. Staffordshire Terrier, who bounces when he walks, sort of like a dancing stallion. He is absolutely adorable, lovely on the leash, seems to like other dogs, and was rated a No Concern at intake at the shelter. He came in as a stray, but there's no doubt he would make someone a terrific pet. Did we mention how cute he is? Please take a look!

Hi. I have my Gussy who is a female boston terrier. She is now 15 months old. I am having major issues with her. She is constantly trying to bite my kids who are ages 11 and 5. There is a big difference with nibbing and biting. I dont know how to stop this or if it will ever. I tell her no bite, in a FIRM VOICE. My kids love her, but I am afraid that one of them will get hurt. She also does not like my husband, this went on for a long time. She just growls at my husband and constantly barks at her.

If anyone has any ideas on how to handle this situation, that would be great. I dont know how much longer i can take of this. The girls love her to death, but if one gets hurt, I will have to find another home for her. I would hate to do that, but my kids come first and i have had her since she was 3 months old.

THE PROBLEM

Over 100 million stray cats roam the streets of the United States. The neighborhoods of New York City are home to a significant number of them. Too feral (wild) to be placed in homes, these cats make their new home on the streets. They breed rapidly . . . a pair of cats can produce 2 or more litters per year which can ultimately result in 400,000 cats in 7 years!

THE SOLUTION
Don't Exterminate the Cats

Because cats congregate around food source, a new colony of cats will move in and start to multiply as soon as you remove the old colony. Stabilizing the population by spaying and neutering the colony keeps new cats and rodents away.

Don't Poison the cats
Poisoning is ineffective and illegal in New York, punishable by a fine and/or jail if convicted.

Don't just feed the cats
Partner with the ASPCA to stop these cats from Breeding

Because you feed and care for your colony, they are healthy enough to breed if left unspayed/unneutered and will give you more mouths to feed. A neutered colony prevents competition for food and shelter, thus increasing your colony's survival rate.

DO Practice Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)

TNR is the universally recognized humane method of controlling the growth of feral cat colonies. It entails TRAPPING ALL THE CATS IN A COLONY, NEUTERING THEM, ADOPTING OUT THE KITTENS AND FRIENDLY CATS, THEN RETURNING THE WILD ADULTS TO THEIR TERRITORY AND PROVIDING THEM WITH FOOD AND SHELTER.

TNR is humane for these reasons

Spaying and neutering ensures longer, healthier lives by eliminating the risk for uterine infections in females and decreasing the spread of diseases like FIV and leukemia.

1. Spaying and neutering eliminates annoying behavioral problems, making the colony more tolerable among your neighbors. In fact your neighbors won't even see or smell them anymore!
2. Altered cats roam less because they won't be in search of a mate.
3. Neutered male cats won't spray foul smelling urine.
4. Spayed female cats won't howl because they will no longer go into "heat".
5. Cats will stay close to their food source and shelter, thus cutting down the risks of living outdoors, such as poisoning, being hit by a car, etc.

KittyKind�s current Newsletter states that, �The TNR (trap, neuter, release) initiative has allowed feral cats to remain in a familiar environment without multiplying, but a resolution for rescued cats with behavior issues is more problematic. There are limited quality homes and sanctuaries and most are at capacity. Nevertheless, KK has responded to this dilemma by developing a permanent, long-term care program for our unadoptable cats.

Your contribution is most needed this year as the cost of maintaining this program rose dramatically due to the escalation of commodity prices such as food and fuel. We greatly appreciate contributions made specifically to this program.�

A rather long quote but here�s this woman�s take on that statement. A resolution for rescued cats with behavior issues has always been problematic for KittyKind who I took to court in 2007 when they fleeced me for $25,000 for just these same cats who along with behavior problems had medical problems that KittyKind�s then Director, Marlene Kess, kept promising would be reimbursed when their Petco grant was received at the end of 2005.

I received reassurances for 2 years while still fostering cats with no provisions for food, litter or medical care and finally approached their new director, Hilary Harris, who claimed to know nothing about the situation. Hilary Harris, who drove me home with cats in her car for purposes of fostering, claimed to know nothing of this situation?! Their next position was that KittyKind had no policy to pay for fostering, that they never paid for foster care. While I never charged for the actual care of the cats: Cleaning their ears, clipping their claws, making sure they were fed, watching their health, charging for boarding (warehousing) of the cats or giving them love and attention, it is ridiculous to think that at over 50 cats and 10 litterboxes I should not receive reimbursement for at least those expenses. The medical care was simply solved by telling me to �take him to your vet and we�ll reimburse you�. Why take him to my vet: Because their vet was in Manhattan, total travel time with sick animal 1 � hours each way; because their vet was sometimes closed during a time when the animal needed immediate veterinary care and because my vet was more convenient. Has anyone yet heard all this before?

When I took this group to court, no foster papers had been signed by me because of my trust in Marlene Kess and Hilary Harris. I believed I was helping an honorable organization to save these poor animals. No papers had been kept by KittyKind and the Judge had to dismiss the case. He made it clear to their attorney that he believed KittyKind had taken advantage of me.

KittyKind was given support by the Mayor�s Alliance whose President, Jane Hoffman, said at what I thought was a Mediation meeting, �We�re not paying any of the bills for 2004.� They then agreed to pay for the following 6 months of food and litter while the cats remained in what was at this point KittyKind�s hostage shelter. Basically, �going forward� meant no reimbursement, just that they�ll pay going forward as they should have in 2004 as they promised and for the four years prior (which I did not charge them for and for which I spent close to $12,000).

My home was at capacity in 2005 with over 50 cats when my Landlord threatened to evict me. KittyKind�s response: When I took them to court their lawyer demanded to see a copy of the Eviction Letter sent to me by my Landlord. At that time Cathy Cristel, who was the secretary showed up at one of the hearings and perjured herself by saying to the Judge and to the KittyKind attorney that I had signed a contract at mediation with the Mayor�s Alliance clearing KittyKind of the $25,000 obligation (first they claimed it had been a personal loan to Marlene Kess). When the Judge requested a copy of this contract, KittyKind could not produce it � because it never happened!

Maintaining this program rose dramatically when 2 ex board members apparently wanted to be given food, litter and medical care for the many cats they still had in their homes. I know for a fact, that these two ex board members had (still have?) feline leukemia cats, fiv cats and cats with other medical problems. So KittyKind must now be paying for their expenses. Do they now pay ALL foster care people or just certain Special people?

KittyKind has a way of changing the truth to suit their version of life. In a letter to the Attorney General�s office in December 31, 2006 they claimed not to have correct paperwork for their taxes because, �Difficult circumstances in 2005 led to the resignation of the former President who managed the organization�s financials affairs.� Was the President of KittyKind also the Treasurer and Secretary? All Board Members are supposed to be on the same page � was Marlene Kess running KittyKind alone? �Difficult circumstances� is KittyKind�s vague way of dancing around the truth to avoid saying that Marlene Kess was convicted of animal abuse and was forced to resign.

Today they say these cats are unadoptable and they�ve developed programs for permanent, long-term care. What program is this? This Long-term care program sounds a lot like adoption with a long trial period. You think you�re helping to domesticate the animal and when you try to return it to them are told, �he�s not adoptable and we have no place else to put him�. This is exactly what happened to me except now KittyKind admits it�s a problem.

How many �foster� homes are out there with unadoptable cats? Are you paying for all the food, litter and medical care while KittyKind posts it as a program expense? So, for program expenses on all their 990s - if KittyKind was not paying for cat food, litter and the vet care that I paid out, did they list it as donated services? This has been in the thousands of dollars for years not just for me but I�m sure for others deceived by KittyKind�s foster �program�.

Hi,
I adopted 2 baby cats a year ago and I need to give them away. I adore them and don't want to give them to a shelter. They are neutered and declawed and extremely affectionate. Both are playful, one is extremely shy with strangers, but she LOVES to be petted once she warms up to you. The other will just go up to anyone and is less needy. They have never ever bitten or scratched me. They don't hiss or do anything weird. They have synchronized activities (they usually stare at the window at the same time, or lay on the floor at the same time, sit on the couch at the same time), they both sleep on my bed with me.

Cassidy loves to be petted and held and touched all over, is very friendly and just wants to be around people. Cassidy does need a little training on the leash, but he'll come around, he's very smart and alert, so teaching him manners should not be difficult at all. Hi Im Gia,
I am approximately 10 months old. Im a gorgeous black and white female Staffy mix. I had a rough start at the beginning. My first owner tied me up to the porch with little food or water for such a long time. I was about to give up but I gave it one last chance and started howling during a terrible thunderstorm. My foster family found me on that porch that night and took me home.
I am a perfect lady with men women and children. I even got to play with the neighborhood kids the other day and boy did we have fun. I know basic commands, Im housetrained and Ill even eat out of your hands. My foster dad keeps telling me what a good girl I am and that a really great family is going to adopt me really soon! I dont know why I havent met them yet but I keep running to the front door so they can see me better!!
Im a little too cat curious and I do have a tendency to be aggressive with other dogs when it comes to toys. Its probably because my first few months of life I didnt have any toys or anyone to play with. So i would do best as a single pet in a household or with someone who is a strong leader who can teach me it's ok to share. Im ready to go home as soon as your ready to pick me up!! So if you're in the market for uncondtional love then Im your girl!!

Queenie was brought in by her owner who said they no longer had the time ... well, their loss could be someone else's gain. At intake, they rated her No Concern, and noted that she was "very sociable". This two year old, beautiful gray Staffordshire Terrier is already housebroken, loves everybody according to her previous owner. And according to the photographer who spent time with her outdoors taking her photos, she was very playful, fun-loving, and very food motivated (big surprise!) so she's a breeze to train. This is a Very Large Black PVC Coated Cage For Sale. I had originally used it for sugar gliders for about 3 months but no longer have the gliders and I need to get rid of the cage as it is just taking up space in my basment. The cage is in Great Condition, it has 2 doors, a Large front door and a smaller side door, and 2 large shelves. It also has a pull out tray. The CAGE IS 4 FEET TALL AND 3 FEET WIDE, so it is very spacious and can be used to house different animals. A stunning 2 yr-old, 48 lbs Lady was left abandoned in an empty apartment and taken to the local city shelter. Since she arrived at the shelter, Lady became a favorite of staff members and volunteers. Not once in her time at the shelter she showed any aggression. She was awarded the shelter's best and most prestigious behavior rating...NO CONCERN. This is reserved for those dogs who perform exceptionally well on their behavior test. One staffer described Lady as a "true princess", and we think she's absolutely correct. Lady is a first class dog - so smart and impressive; we know everyone is going to fall in love with her.

We rescued Lady from an overcrowded shelter and she now needs a forever home. Lady loves meeting people and give kisses whether you ask for them or not. She was seized when her owner was evicted. Lady has lost her owner and her home, and one fell swoop. Yes, she's very gentle and affectionate and is rather submissive with people. Lady is, well, a real lady. She comes quickly when you call her, and obeys the "sit" and "stay" commands. Lady enjoys staying at her caretaker's feet or hopping on the bench and sitting next to you to be carressed. She loves toys and plays with them for hours. She takes treats gently from your hands. She has a beautiful mahogany brindle coat and soulful brown eyes.

Lady had given birth to a little of puppies shortly before she came to the shelter. Her puppies were taken away from her and she's now protective around other dogs and cats therefore she needs to be the only pet in the household.

This sweet and very healthy little girl is just too adorable. Approx 40 lbs and 6 yrs-old, she's all-white except for a dark gray patch over one eye and part of the face. Diamond landed in a very crowded city shelter and her chances of getting adopted were zero. Shelter staff adored her and saved her life by bringing her to our attention. We took Diamond in and a wonderful foster home soon appeared and worked with the critter who is now ready for prime time. Low key, sappy sweet, gentle, good house manners, Diamond's a good reason we're addicted to the lovin' on the older dogs. Read what Diamond's foster dad has to say about the critter.
