We're an online food, drink and lifestyle publication co-founded by one of the nation's leading celebrity chefs. We're looking for an intern to help our small but dedicated staff in-office with the following tasks:
-Preliminary story research/fact-checking
-Calling in/testing products
-Writing short, timely pieces for the site
-Attending media events
-Assistance in test kitchen (once or twice through the duration of internship)
-Attending editorial meetings, pitching story ideas
Required:
-BA in journalism or other writing-intensive major. Current students living in NYC will be considered.
-Previous internship experience at a major website or publication
-2 references: 1 academic, 1 professional (can provide additional references)
-An interest in learning about the latest trends, news and politics surrounding modern food culture
-Some experience in content building/management systems/websites/blogging platforms
-Strong copyediting skills
-A commitment of at least 2 full days a week (preferably 3) for three months or longer
Desired:
-Some cooking/foodservice experience (should be comfortable with kitchen basics)
-Previous by-lines
-Chef/PR contacts within the culinary world
What you will never do:
-Fetch anything
-Be bored
-Get tired of our awesome, buzzing Midtown office with a cool roof deck where they throw happy hours/soirees/other fun after-work stuff
This position is unpaid, but you will earn plenty of by-lines and there will be potential for paid freelance work in the future.
