Description Overview

The DBA/Developer will manage the organization’s collections management MySQL database and extend the functionality of the Collective Access application. The DBA/Developer will be responsible for the full life-cycle development, including analysis, design, and development of various web applications. The DBA will take full ownership of all of the organizations current internal and external websites and web applications. This individual must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be an efficient and agile engineer who is motivated by solving interesting technical challenges. The DBA/Developer will build new applications quickly to support organizational goals. This position will report to the Information Technology Director
Responsibilities and Duties
• Support and maintain a high volume, high availability production collections management database.
• Administer and support existing databases while insuring optimized performance, stability, monitoring, and uptime.
• Work with the IT Director to define requirements for and implement new databases and content management systems to meet the growing needs of the organization.
• Systematically evaluate and tune individual collections management MySQL database parameters to increase throughput and minimize data loss.
• Interact directly with the open source Collective Access community to further usage, knowledge, and capabilities of the Collective Access application.
• Design and administration of Microsoft's SQL Server database technologies.
• Interface with internal clients to gather requirements and provide coding and development as well as support and maintenance.
• Building and maintaining dynamic sites back-ended by a content management system.
• Good understanding of internet applications and workflow technologies.
• Report and query creation for data extraction.





QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIREMENT
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience administering customer-facing databases as a MySQL DBA 5.0/5.1 on Linux environment -Understanding of master-slave replication.
• Strong Linux skills.
• Experience building and maintaining web services.
• Experience developing applications using software development kits (SDKs).
• Seven years experience in technology or the web technology field.
• Five years experience as a Web Developer utilizing the Linux Apache MySQL and PHP (LAMP) platform.
• Ability to write bash/Perl scripts for monitoring, capacity planning, backups, and replication start /stop.
• Proficiency programming in PHP, .NET experience a plus.
• Demonstrated problem solving abilities and initiative.
• Experience deploying software in the cloud.
• 5 years of production development experience.
• Advanced JavaScript, HTML and CSS usage a must.
• Experience using and developing web services.
• Experience with server side application development.
• Comfortable working in a very fast-paced, demanding environment.
