1. Create an applet that plays a simple guessing game. Give it two buttons labeled Odd and Even. The user must guess whether a secret number is odd or even by clicking one of these buttons. 3. Write an applet that displays a series of pictures of a person with arms, legs, and of course a head. Use a happy face for the head. Use ovals for the body, arms, and legs. Draw a sequence of figures that appear one after the other, as in Listing 4.9. Make the figures assume a running position. Change the color of the person’s face in each succeeding figure, going from white to pink to red to yellow to green. Have the smiling face gradually change its mouth shape from a smile on the first person to a frown on the last person. Use a switch statement to choose the color. Embed the switch statement in a loop.
Hint: this program uses a switch to determine the face color and the height adjustment of the mouth. The mouth height adjustment is used to gradually change the mouth from a smile to a frown. Also, a number of constants are added for the position and size of the arms, legs, and body.

Guaymas city has been suffering in the last years unusual weather phenomena. This year the hurricane Jimena has lashed the city of Guaymas leaving an important level of rain. 2009 is the year when it rained the most (in the last 50 years) and this caused an important damage to the population of Guaymas and to the city. The hurricane affected people of all backgrounds, leaving a lot of people in the middle of nowhere since they lost everything they had. Everything was affected, public buildings, leisure areas, houses, schools, there was no place that was not affected. This international volunteer project is organized in order to help in the reconstruction of the city of Guaymas with the support of motivated volunteers. There are many things to be done since there were several areas seriously affected. We need help to clean beaches, to rebuild sportive spaces, to clean up parks and community spaces, to fix roads, to help in rural communities by giving health workshops. After the hurricane, the children affected don’t have a place to continue their studies, they lost everything they had for their education: material, furniture, the roof collapsed and the walls were damaged because of the water and humidity. For that reason, at this first stage, the goal of the project is renovating and reconstructing two schools damaged by the Jimena Hurricane, so the children affected can return to their educative activities as soon as possible and in a clean and healthy environment, appropriate for their development and with the support of the international volunteers. This project will benefit 25 families for the first school and 180 families for the second school. Volunteers will help with the reconstruction of the two schools affected. They will help with reconstruction activities such as painting walls, reforestation, and cleaning the schools. They will contribute to renovate these structures through scratching and painting walls, and will also do some artistic work such as painting murals on the walls of the schools with the help of local volunteers with landscapes and thematic appropriate for the children. The volunteers will also help planting trees and reforesting the affected area, making and putting signals and signs. Age range: 18 and over Location: Morelia is a beautiful historic city, and capital of the state of Michoacán. Founded almost 500 years ago, the city has a wonderful central zone with buildings dating back to the time of the Spanish conquest as well as all the more modern attributes (shops, bars, cafés, etc). The city's population is over 1 million and the climate is moderately warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-35º C. Morelia is well connected to a variety of great places to visit, such as Pátzcuaro, and the ancient Purépecha capital Tzintzunzan.
Individuals between the ages of 16-25 and a close family member are being sought for participation in a research study at New York University School of Medicine. In order to qualify for participation, individuals must not have any psychiatric history and must have past or present marijuana use. However, individuals must not have any other recreational drug use in order to qualify for participation.
This study involves participating in a Structured Clinical Interview as well as blood and urine samples. Study participation time is approximately 4 hours and can be broken up into different study visits according to participants' needs.
Study participants will be reimbursed for their time.

TET Festival is Vietnamese traditional New Year Holiday (following Lunar Calendar) which usually falls into mid January – mid February. However, in the orphanages, children do not have enough to prepare for their holiday. Most of them stay in the orphanage or centers over the Tet, only some of them go back to their home villages. In Ho Chi Minh City area, an international workcamp will be set up to prepare Tet holidays in Ky Quang Orphanage and Chua La Orphanage. Volunteers will help renovating the houses, cleaning the site and making Chung Cake (traditional cake for children in Tet).

This research study uses brain-imaging technology to visualize and research changes in brain chemistry that may cause an episode of depression in patients with bipolar disorder. You will undergo two PET scans and an MRI scan. Following research study participation you will receive up to six months of outpatient treatment or up to two months of inpatient treatment. you may be eligible to participate in a research study examining a free psychotherapy intervention
for Non-Suicidal Self-Injury
through Fordham University's Psychology Department.
Eligible volunteers can also participate in a year long study consisting of 8 additional visits:
3 lung health exams (including physical exam, electrocardiogram (EKG), blood and urine tests, chest x-ray and a breathing test) and bronchoscopy procedures lasting 3-4 hours each and 5 visits to provide routine blood and urine tests lasting 30 minutes each.

The small-scale dams that we build with community groups, capture the seasonal rain and store it below the sand behind the dam. They supply clean water all year round enable farmers to start vegetables and tree nurseries. Coupled with terracing land and planting trees, soil erosion is reduced helping to improve food production, incomes and health.

We are looking for volunteers who can assist the Team Director with coordination both before and during the event. That coordination involves a range of activities like; list compilation, phone calls, assembling info packages. sending out mail & postcards, checking off names at the door of the event, assisting the Musical Director and assisting the Event Director.
After the event and beginning 11/23 thru 12/7 we are looking for volunteers who will help man the table at the gallery for 2 weeks while an exhibition of our participating musicians portraits are shown.
Samaritans hotline is staffed entirely by trained volunteers who work together as a cooperative team in a safe and comfortable Village setting. The organization is non-religious and non-political and you'd be joining a group of 100 amazing volunteers of all ages and backgrounds--from musicians and artists to Wall Street bankers and analysts to social workers, grad students and stay-at-home parents--each who wants to do something rewarding and meaningful in their free time. The purpose of this research study is to gather teacher perspectives of teacher action research. The goal of the research is to discover ways to help teachers conduct teacher action research within their learning communities.
What Is The Criteria For Participation?
Research participants will consist of teachers who are:
(1) presently working; and,
(2) new to research, or unfamilar with teacher oriented-research.
Since educators are open to participate, there are no specific participation numbers.
What Is Involved In The Study?
You will be asked to complete a questionnaire regarding your educational experiences, beliefs, and attitudes that is estimated to take approximately 10-15 minutes. The questionnaire is comprised of 28 Likert scale questions and 5 open-ended questions. Your identity will remain anonymous. You will not be asked to disclose your name, email or personal contact information. You will be identified only as a teacher.
This volunteer position is best suited for individuals who can volunteer around 1-2 hours a week, 2 Sundays a month, and is willing to be a part of a growing non-profit.
Responsibilities:
- Speak on behalf of the project to help spread awareness.
- Oversee the sale of Blessing for Brazil items.

International and local volunteers will organize Christmas and New Year festival for extremely poor children living in the Fisher village at the Red River and for the patients of the National Pediatric Hospital in Hanoi. The volunteers will make nice gifts for the children such as light stars. In the fisher village, in collaboration with the local volunteers and the children, the international participants will organize a big party on the bank of the Red River (theatre, dance, BBQ, etc.). In the Hospital, the volunteers will visit the children in their rooms, dressed as Santa Claus, and will hand out candies and small gifts. Between the parties, the volunteers will cook for the children attending the Street children school, and will organize leisure activities for them after school. The volunteers need to bring Santa Claus clothes. They will also collect second hand clothes to give to the very poor children who don’t have enough warm clothes for the winter..

The volunteer project will take place close to the city of Hat Yai, in the Songhkla province (Southern Thailand). Volunteers have contributed to the activities of several schools in the neighbourhood since 1998, particularly by holding lessons and activities in English for the children. The project this year is a continuation of these efforts. The volunteers will run English workshops, games and educative activities in English with the kids of several primary schools in the surroundings, using non-formal education techniques. Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to non-formal education techniques, intercultural learning and group dynamics in general, and in how it is specifically practiced in Thai schools. Special requirements: Good level of English and the will to teach it to kids is necessary. Age range: 18 and over
The Kemudo village area was struck by a massive earthquake on May 27, 2006. Seven people were found dead, while hundreds of others were injured. About 85% of houses collapsed, and many others were seriously damaged. Since the day after the quake, international volunteer groups have been involved in relieving the pain of the villagers through the implementation of relief actions, such as sending food supplies and medicine, organizing free medical assistance, and providing assistance to local villages and inhabitants. These efforts are held in the spirit of promoting international solidarity and intercultural encounter. Similarly, a new group of international volunteers will get involved both in renovating/reconstructing the area and supplying education to the local children. The volunteers will do small renovation jobs and will paint the local school. They will also be involved in educational activities with the children, mainly teaching them English and basic hygiene practices. Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to the Indonesian culture and customs in general, with a special focus on the Javanese particularities. Some cultural visits are also foreseen.
Leisure time: Volunteers will visit the nearby World Heritage site of the Prambanan Temples. A visit to Yogyakarta City is also foreseen. Location: Kemudo Village is located in Klaten regency, 25 km east of Yogyakarta City and 95 km south east of Semarang.
The international volunteer project will take place in Temeke District of Dar es Salaam. The volunteers will be organizing sports, games and language classes for youth of ages 15-20. Study part: Realization of youth's role in the development of Tanzania.
Free time activities: Over night stay on Zanzibar; Bagamoyo historical sites; Mikumi National Park to view wild animals; beach.

Temeke District is the southernmost of three districts in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with Kinondoni located to the far North of the city, and Ilala being located in the downtown of Dar es Salaam. To the East is the Indian Ocean and to the South and West is the Coastal region of Tanzania.
