Scholastic, the world's largest publisher and distributor of children's books and a leader in educational technology and children's media, is currently seeking a Director of Corporate Strategy and Analysis.
Key responsibilities consist of the following:
• Analysis and development of company-wide and business unit level initiatives to drive sustained competitive advantage, profitable growth and higher returns on invested capital.
Key tasks include:
o Business analysis and benchmarking
o Process improvement
o Product portfolio and pricing strategies
o On-line and digital initiatives
• Development and quantification of long-term growth opportunities through existing businesses, adjacency opportunities and inorganic opportunities, such as M&A, JVs and partnerships.
Key tasks include:
o Market and strategic analysis
o Valuation and option analyses
o Development of strategic proposals that lead to commercial alliances, technology licensing/acquisition or product implementation
Typical Experience
• 4+ years total business experience with demonstrated record of achievement and increasing responsibility
• Experience in business or marketing analysis, strategic planning, product management, strategic marketing, a start-up or strategy consulting
• Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and think both critically and strategically
• Demonstrated executive presence with ability to develop rapport with all levels of the organization and lead where appropriate
• Ability to work in unstructured environments and to multi-task, with good process orientation and attention to detail without losing sight of the larger perspective
• Excellent quantitative/qualitative skills plus the ability to present and communicate ideas in both written and oral forms
• High level of energy and enthusiasm
• Flexible work and leadership style to maximize team performance
• High level of familiarity and comfort with technology and online media and business models
Education
• BA/BS from a competitive undergraduate institution. Consideration given for relevant advanced degrees and work experience
