Obama like when i was chased out of the Vanderveer apts flatbush ave. brooklyn as a 5 year old white girl in 1963 and moved to the suburbs cause the neighborhood changed now alomost 50 i would now like to return to flatbush gardens new york ave. brooklyn but cannot afford the rent there can you help me out with that?

If you are seriously disturbed by Barack Obama possibly getting the presidency and you want "reparations" for some perceived slight think about this:

First of all Brooklyn is capitalized and so is I and the name of a place like an avenue or town. If you are 50 years old, you should know this. Typing on a computer is no excuse for poor grammar. I make mistakes but at least I try. Second, you were not chased out. Your family chose to move out of Brooklyn because they didn't want to live among black people, many of whom probably were of a social status equal to your family. This is sad considering Americans are supposed to be the land of the free and home of the brave. Nothing brave about leaving your home. Londoners were being bombed by the Nazis twenty years earlier and they didn't abandon their city.

When landlords redline and slumlords seek out economically disadvantaged people to fill the vacancies left by the fleeing middle classes, neighborhoods predictably decline. Crime goes up and neighborhoods stagnate or get worse.

Nobody owes you anything. If you want to move back to Brooklyn and can't afford to then you stay where you are. Just because the neigborhood has gentrified and is now again "nice" doesn't mean you should get a return ticket at taxpayer expense.

Get a good job and buy a co-op or condo. Maybe if you kids have done well, they can buy you a studio apartment to live out your retrirement years.

If not then you struggle like everyone else in this city who don't get subsidized anything but have to pay higher and higher costs for food and energy.

If you are not serious. Then you are going to find any reason you can to NOT vote for the best person running. Too bad you are stuck in stupid and are looking for excuses instead of submitting solutions. Get real lady and do some good in these twilight years of your life. And if you want to blame someone for your family leaving Brooklyn when they could have been among the few whites who did stick it out and survive the "ghetto", blame the slum lords and the banks that redlined. Blame the politicians who bought property out in the suburbs and needed families to move into their housing developments out on Long Island. Blame greedy speculators who bought and now rent one bedroom apartments for $2,000 and $3,000 thousand dollars per month and there isn't even an elevator!

Lastly, I have little love or sympathy for people who have kids they don't really want nor can afford forcing the state to subsize their lives. But the state did this because the state knew that the schools these people were attending were worthless. They knew that racism and corruption were rampant and that many decent people were denied good jobs they were otherwise qualified for. Many millions of people took advantage of the state and made poverty and industry. This goes on today and I wonder when will taxpayers refuse to foot the bill for people who choose not to do anything for themselves. People who choose to have kids with people who have no intention of committing to them or supporting their kids. That too is a problem in society. Maybe Obama can address these real problems but he may not get a chance of stupid trouble-making people tie him up with all kinds of racist issues. Stop thinking of only yourself and remember we are a nation at war. What have you done for the troops lately?
