Yes, I'd love to take your 14 year old diabetic cat! Where do I sign up? Is there a waiting list? Why should you inconvenience yourself or pay someone to give her the insulin when some stranger who wants a pet, can adopt one like this! It's every wannabee cat adopter's dream--an old, diabetic cat, who requires 2 shots a day! You are such a saint to seek out only THE BEST home for her. And I bet you have standards, huh? I'll bet you're going to check out references. hope you find someone as worthy and as caring as you are, maybe even a 4 year old, as you say in your ad. I'm sure you'll find someone, especially when you threaten to euthanize her if you don't find someone soon!

Inexperienced, good-hearted finder of a cat needs advice (Uptown Manhattan)

I was not looking to get a cat, but one followed me home a few weeks ago. (The only prior experience is with taking care of friends' cats, I am a single woman living alone).

I assumed the kitty, a female, had been someone's pet because she was so clean and friendly. Other than being very hungry, she seemed like a normal domestic cat to me. I put up local neighborhood signs, an ad on Craigslist, and called Animal Care&Ctrl re lost pets (and checked their site). No owner has been found. Kitty is estimated to be a year old, and is energetic, spazzy, curious, and affectionate.

I work during the day, like most people, and Kitty is alone all day. It has been a few weeks and I would adopt the the cat, she has been to a vet for exam/tests/shots, and I would get her spayed if I keep her. The problem is that it seems like she is withdrawing (not being friendly anymore, not enjoying petting, bites the air near my hand when I pet her, not greeting me when I'm home, yet still eating healthily and otherwise acting healthy) so maybe it's because she is home alone all day? Have tried the cat videos, battery toys, etc, but it doesn't seem to be helping (she likes interactive toys like the laser and wand but that involves me being around). I had even considered adopting another cat, but that is a bit extreme as I wasn't originally looking for one, much less two!

So I think the most humane thing would be to find a good home for her? I have called NYC no-kill shelters, the ones i called are all full (and I called a LOT of them), I've read about how mean it is to turn her in to Animal Care&Ctrl because the chance of her getting out alive are slim.

Any rescues out there, or indivuals, who have advice for me in this case? I think she'd be happier in a home with other pets where she wouldn't be alone all day, but have no idea where to turn for help so she won't get killed (please don't generically say "call the rescues", as I mentioned I already did that, unless you know of one that is accepting animals). I could try to adopt her out myself on CL, of course, and may end up doing that. I am totally OK with fostering her, just don't think this is a happy long-term situation for her. Or if anyone can tell me how she can be put on petfinder.com, perhaps that would be the best conduit and I could take care of her until then, even if it takes a while.

Any advice regarding how to best go about finding a good home for her would be appreciated. She could offer so much to a happy home, and I'm willing to wait for the right one for her -- it's not like I want to get rid of her. Alternative advice would be whether there's any way to make a cat who is alone all day happier for the time she is with me -- or is being alone for that much time just a "not nice" situation regardless, for a cat?

I agree with you that these are serious charges. Don't understand why you're doubtful this happened. Maybe otehrs will also come forward to confirm this indicent once they realize what a serious incident this was. Lots of people at Union Sqwuare saw and heard what I did and we all just stood there with our mouths hanging open!

I have no idea what an APO is or what the Mayor's Alliance involvement in this issue - that's not for me to dicide, the person whose cats were taken is the one who needs to do that.

Please read what I worte, it never mentions the Mayor's Alliance, I said the ASPCA is the one I thought was the one to call. I still don't see why I dhould call the Mayor's Alliance. If someone robbd me of my pet I would think to call the ASPCA and NYPD first.

Excuse my poor typing/english: "it sounds to me" should have been typed "It sounded to me" i.e. what I heard as a bystander.

I never wrote anything about an incident a year ago, I wasn't aware of anything that happened then. I saw what happened this one time and that's all I wrote about.

I'm still shocked over what I witnessed. I'm sure that when a police report or report to the ASPCA is filed, the victim will give dates, times and ask for witnesses to contact her.

I am willing to watch your animal/plants/take in your mail/make sure you place is safe for when you go away. I have great references and have been doing this for a while for many friends and decided to extend my services to anyone who needs it.

I have a great history with animals, I grew up with many different types of animals and I currently live with two cats who I take care of when my roommate is away.My roommate can tell you that the cats are very happy with me and always happy to see me. I would charge $20 a day for one animal and $4 extra dollars for each additional animal. (this may change do to the situation)

Of course this will entail taking your dog to the dog park, spending some time with your cats, and even talk to your plants so they do not get lonely when you are away. :-)

Loving, diabetic, female cat (spade) needs a new home. Penelope is 14 years old and still an active cat. No major health problems other than diabetes, which requires two shots of insulin a day. Very inexpensive supplies. Insulin runs about $45 and two bottles will last about a year. Needles are very tiny and a box will last a year at around $20-$25. The injections are extremely simple and easy. Penelope feels no pain as you simply lift the skin up on the neck and inject there. It is so simple, that you could train a child to do this.

Because I am away for long hours, Penelope needs a new home with someone who is willing and able to give her the care and attention she deserves. She is a very affectionate, sweet cat. Because she is still normal and relatively healthy and not having any complications, I simply cannot bring myself to have her euthanized nor placed in a pet shelter.

I'm hoping that I can find a cat lover who is willing to take her in and give her the love and attention she needs so that she can live out her full life span.

Before I give her up, I will need to speak with interested individuals in person and view the home that she will be living in.

If this altercation occured, I cannot fathom any reason why you would not want to let the MA know. This rescue group is an APO (authorized participating organization) with MA, In fact you specifically reference that this group has been reprimanded for previous threats by the MA, but I guess that's not good enough for them." So it's hard to understand why, in this particular instance, you would not wish to contact MA.

From what you wrote, it appears that you witnessed this alleged altercation. But other remarks suggest that you inferred what may have happened - "it sounds to me as if this person was robbed of her cats in broad daylight in Union Square Park!" Perhaps I misunderstand.

In your post you make specific allegations about an incident for which you've neglected to provide a specific date and time. You talk about something that occured last July (no specific date/time for that either). Must be an oversight that this basic information would be left out making it impossible to follow-up and validate these allegations and get all the facts.

You've made serious allegations where you publish the name of a specific Rescue organization and accuse them of harrassment and of stalking people on NYC streets.
"Anyone know what their problem is and why they stalk people on the streets of Manhattan? They roam the surrounding area and harrass the people doing cat adoptions outside in the weather... "

You go on to accuse this group of illegal behavior. Such allegations require that specific verifiable details and facts be provided to back-them up.

Usually people administer fluids under the skin, which is very simple, usually painless, and people easily learn to do it at home.

With dialysis, doesn't a shunt (semi) permanently have to be installed in a vein and artery? The blood goes out the vein, into the machine, then back through an artery? Unless it's peritoneal dialysis, but with that too, I think you need something installed into the abdominal cavity.

Ask your vet about SQ fluids, a special diet formulated for kidney problems, and aluminum salts, usually in the form of simple antacid pills, which helps keep phosphate blood levels down.

Huckleberry is a 50 lb 2 yr old distinctive looking Walker Hound Mix who may be living out last moments in a rural high kill shelter. He, like thousands of other hounds are discarded like trash every day in the American South and Midwest. Huckleberry is one of these such dogs. He is capable of love, affection and playfulness-- but in some areas they are not seen as family members, rather as tools for the hunt. Huckleberry passed all of his behavioral tests at the shelter and was great with other dogs. We'll take care of arranging and payign for all of his vetting, but to save him, we need a local foster home in NYC, where we can place him in a home where he will be cherished.

Currently, Huckleberry is available for Foster-to-adopt ONLY-- you will not have an opportunity to meet him before fostering, but you will NOT have to commit to adoption until you are sure he is the right boy for you.

Please keep in mind:
- Hounds are very loving, people-centered dogs who are often shy at first. We'll need you to be patient while their personalities bloom
- Many southern hounds are not housetrained, but can easily be trained even in adulthood
- Hounds need leash walking or fenced-in areas. They are bred to follow their noses!
- They are some of the most misunderstood dogs in the country. They are second only to pit bulls in numbers needlessly euthanized in kill shelters. Please give a needy hound a chance.

URGENT: Lilly Rose is an 11 week old kitten. She is in the overburdened city shelter. Lilly Rose has a fractured pelvis and is scheduled for euthanasia tomorrow morning. She desperately needs a foster home!
We don't know the cause of her injury, but we we know she is unable to use her left hind leg and her pelvis is completely fractured. She may or may not need surgery. If you can foster her, please call Kristina at (914) 980-4187. Anjellicle Cats Rescue is a no-kill, non-profit, all-volunteer organization. She will need some trips to the vet, but most of all, love and TLC!
Lilly Rose weighs 2.8 pounds. If you can foster her, you will be saving her life. We cover medical expenses and work with terrific vets in Manhattan. We welcome fosters from outside the city, but please have transportation to Manhattan. Please save this poor kitten!
