Lambda Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people, and people with HIV through impact litigation, education, and public policy work. Summary: The Major Gifts Officer reports to the Director of Corporate Relations and will work closely with the Deputy Director of Development and the Member Services Team to expand Lambda Legal’s major donor program primarily in the Northeast area as well as help develop materials for the National major donor program. Within the major donor program the Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will focus on recruiting, renewing and upgrading member and corporate donations of $1,500 or more and will build and maintain a portfolio of donors at all levels of giving. The MGO also will work to increase planned giving in the area and will work with the other staff and volunteer leadership committees to increase major, corporate, and law firm gifts and support events. Based in New York, the MGO will have some travel requirements.
The MGO will also work with staff and the Events team to coordinate corporate sponsorships and major gifts for annual events in the Northeast area and support and manage annual solicitation of Northeast donors by the Executive Director, Board members, NLC members, volunteers, and other Lambda Legal staff. S/he will help train and partner with volunteer solicitors.
Qualifications: A candidate must be able to work independently. A qualified individual will have at least three years development experience, including direct work with individual donors in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of annual gifts. Experience working closely with Board and key volunteers and knowledge of the Northeast area, LGBT and/or philanthropic communities is required. Outstanding written communication and analytical, interpersonal, and administrative skills are required. Skills in Internet research, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets and donor software (preferably Raiser’s Edge) are necessary.
