It was packed (around 4 p.m., I think) so I cleared off the only table open, and when I came back from getting coffee you had sat down at the table I had cleared. I was worried you had thought I was leaving, but then you asked if we could share the table, to which I responded "Uh, totally, yeah, sure!" or something similarly brilliant and of Stephen Fry-worthy wit. I suppose I should have offered it (the table) to you in the first place, since you were technically there before me, and I kind of sensed you were annoyed that I had taken it. I never even actually sat down because the second another table opened I took it, but I just wanted to say that I moved because I felt awkward, not because I'm some space hog/crazy person/thought you were a nutter. I regretted it instantly, because you looked at me very apologetically, and I hope you weren't too irritated. I regretted moving, because it would have been lovely to strike up a conversation, but in the moment I thought you would think I was odd or obstinate (and rude) if I stayed!You were very... is it strange to call a woman handsome? Well, I hope not, because I thought you were perfectly handsome. You finished up and left so quickly - I hope it wasn't because you felt awkward, too!

Anywho, this felt very much like a missed-connection sort of thing, and if nothing else I hope you weren't as annoyed as you seemed. I would have happily shared the table with you. Sorry I turned into a high-pitched idiot. Hope you had a nice evening!

"Mind if I sit here for a moment," she politely questioned. So hmany quips running through my mind.

"Of course," I mouthed.

Her damp, unassuming coat opened to reveal a very modest Wednesday ensemble. The bartender reacted to her pressence. As he made his way to my corner, he eyed her, he eyed me.

"What'll it be?"

"Amstel light," she quickly replied, "bottle, not draft."

I'm not sure why, but I chuckled to myself. 
The bar was crowded, unusually so.
I expected a quiet night.

Her beer was suddenly in front of her, and just as quietly the bartender was at the other end. I took a big slow drink from my frosted glass. There was nothing good on- I hate this time of year, only basketball and hockey. I couldn't help but watch her from the corner of my eye. 

She glanced at me again, this time I couldn't help but to let her catch me noticing. "So,
 you must be a regular here," she asked me awkwardly. Her coat was on the back of her chair now, but her phone still sat inches from her hand.

"Something like that," I patiently replied.

"Yeah, I'm a regular on Sundays." Her simple statement made it impossible not to respond.
"Im here on Sundays too."

"Oh really, I've never seem you here?" Something about her question seemed inocently dishonest; this place is only so big. Questions flooded my alcohol-altered mind. Have we met before? Did she sit here because she knew me? Is she waiting for someone, or, like me, is she just looking for someone to talk to.

I made hapless banter for a few minutes all the while trying to figure the moment out. She sat with her right leg crossed over her left. Her posture suggested a formal upbringing that she had forgotten when she finally left home. She wore jeans that showed off her fit figure, but left enough to the imagination. Her crew neck, black top did the same. She wore a long gold necklace, spotted with some sort of stone, looked to be amythist, maybe onyxx. It was formal without being pretentious, probably an heirloom. 

I found it peculiar, she sat next to me, but never moved the chair, she left it in close proximity. Her legs were nearly touching mine. I couldn't shake the presence of her phone from my mind, at least not long enough to be myself. She was from the Midwest, as far as I could tell. Her accent and her mannerisms aggreed. The banter drifted to sports, to which she applied an SAT calibur vocabularly. I coyly replied with similar inteligent wit. 

Suddenly, she was tapped on the shoulder. It was a man. His expression was half of suprise, half insecurity. He knew her, and quickly introduced himself as Kevin. I made my pleasantries, and just like that, she was gone.

Anyway, today was no exception. I started my day opening up the laptop, signing in, and pulling up my work and spreadsheets. I had been working and emailing, while answering my cell and blackberry for about 4 hours. My mind lost in the details. Out of the blue, with no prompting, he popped into my head and I felt physically ill. Like how you get when you're very scared or how you feel something is wrong. It lasted for about 10 minutes. For the first time in god knows how long I felt connected to him. I can't explain it, but I could see and feel him.

I don't kid myself...it wasn't a premonition, he wasn't thinking of me, nothing supernatural. But even though the feeling faded, the tears dried, I still cannot shake it. I'm sitting here trying to explain to myself that it was just one of those things. Is this something that is going to continue to happen though? What part of "he's gone, he used me, he moved on", doesn't my heart quite get?

Now I'm trying to get back to the work sitting in neat little piles that has to get done. Now I'm just trying to push him back to the deepest part of my mind. As I do all this...my eyes wander to the bottom of my screen, waiting but not expecting...
