We are an African American owned art gallery specializing in works by African American artists. We are looking to fill an “intern with stipend” position. The intern should be familiar with the work of Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Glenn Ligon, Carrie Mae Weems, Kara Walker, et al.
The gallery is on the infamous 57th street between 5th and 6th.
We produce art gallery catalogues and have exhibitions normally only four times a year. Although our doors are always open, 95% of our clients are from our client lists.
We require:
-A good listener and self starter.
-A person with a good working knowledge of the English language.
-A person who is familiar with our webpage. (Please do not apply unless you have carefully reviewed our webpage)
-A person with good knowledge of MSWord and Photoshop is required.
-Tasks will include but not be limited to, phone answering, organization of paperwork and aiding in preparations for exhibitions.
-Experience with QuarkXPress is preferred, although not required
-We would love to have someone who is very familiar with the art market, but it is not required.
-A perfect fit for a student.
This is can be a full time position or a part time position with flexible hours, but must be during gallery hours (Monday-Friday 10am-6pm)
You will receive a nominal stipend every two weeks.
