Dakota is a loving and energetic shih tzu who will be 2 in March. He is neutered and up to date on all shots and checkups. He is completely housebroken and crate trained. Awesome with kids. He loves to play with our neighbor dog who is a daschound. We really love our dog, but i was very naive about the work that would go into having one while taking care of my 2 year old son. It is just too much for me. Dakota is very active, just like my son so it is like having two toddlers in the house. It was just really bad timing on my part.

A wonderful sponsor got him out and into safety to a kennel in Pa. for 2 weeks where he could romp and play with other dogs, and get some country air. He is now ready for his forever home, and we will be bringing him back to the city asap to meet his new prospective owner.
A Volunteer wrote---I have had a crush on MOET all day, just thinking about him!! He's a big strong boy, but a mush-y kinda type, who was mostly
interested in GETTING GROOMED: oh, he LOVED that!
he's the talkative type, ya know? those that talk a lot without

ROCKY WILL DIE TOMORROW AT 10 am unless we call before 6 to save him. Please give us a reason to do so! The final dog we're promoting tonight also happens to be the saddest and most in need. Meet ROCKY, who was surrendered by his woner after TWELVE YEARS. Who could do such a thing? Well, sometimes things happen that cause these kinds of tragedies, and we can only hope Rocky's former family did everything they could to keep him. This is no way for a beloved pet and companion to live out his days.

We want Rocky to have a warm bed and yummy food for the years he's go left. We don't want him to die confused and surrounded by noisy dogs barking. He is a mild mannered boy according to our vets, and has some cloudy eyes but is otherwise in good health. He'd love a second chance at life, and the people who gave him one would be doing a very good deed, for sure.

Because Rocky came into the shelter so recently, we only have the photo that was taken automatically when he got weighed. Please look at it carefully, and see the true cuteness of it!

More dogs being put down in New York City's "pound". So many of them are nice, adoptable dogs who deserve your help, and FLAME is among them.

What is there to say about this 38 pound girl? First off, she's not going to get much bigger than she is now...which is not big at all! She's got the face of a pit or boxer or shepherd (we can't tell), but on a little, small body. The effect makes her look like a puppy, even though she's almost done growing. It's so cute!! Flame acts like a puppy, too. She likes to chew on things, is very wriggly and squirmy, and is very enthusiastic about kisses. She'll need obedience training-but then she's going to be amazing. She comes at you with a determined look on her little face, ready to kiss you. Her whole body shakes when her tail wags. She'll let you pick her up and snuggle her. She's just an awesome dog for the right person- one who thinks that the dogs who are a little "bananas" are ofetn the very best kinds. Flame is a comedian who will fill your home with laughter and good times, and all you have to do is teach her a few manners and keep her warm, safe, and loved.

As Flame is on the euthanasia list for SUNDAY, October 11th, we are desperately seeking applications for foster or adoption. If we get any, we can then ask for more time to process candidates. BARON is a gorgeous, 2 yr old neutered, 60 lb M Pit Mix who is the unfortunate victim of a landlord issue. His current owner can't afford to live anywhere else and the landlord wants Baron out. Baron was rescued from the NYC Kill shelter and his owner does not want to bring him back to the shelter by any means! but he must get him a new home by OCT 15!!!

BARON is a sweet loving boy, but he is very shy and a "scaredy" dog and gets nervous around strangers - people and dogs. He bonds very quickly once he gets to know you but sometimes he gets "overprotective" and reactive with other dogs on the street. His owner was working with him to give Baron the confidence he needs to be a well balanced, socialized dog so Baron will need someone who has had EXPERIENCE WITH BULLY BREEDS or someone who is willing to continue with a training program to make Baron a confident, self-assured, well socialized and balanced dog. He appears to get along with "female" dogs and dogs that are smaller than him; however he would be best as an "only dog" at first or with a female dog... unfortunately he hasn't been tested with cats and we don't feel he should be with small children... only older kids 12+ yrs. He is completely housebroken and is very obedient - He knows all the basic commands is very eager & quick to learn... he just needs help building his confidence... but is so eager to please so if your looking for that LOYAL BEST FRIEND FOREVER then Baron is the boy for you!

The middle-aged Thunder and Chase thought their lives were complete at their owner's abode. But she moved and the doggy duo carries a heavy load. I have 2 cats and the female had given birth to 7 kittens in late July. We have been fortunate enough to find homes for the first 3, but now 4 remain. I ask for an adoption fee but other than that they are good to go. They are housebroken (they watched their mother and father use the litter box and thankfully were smart enough to copy their actions) and adorable. They play quite a bit but also take time to sit back and relax! 3 are females and 1 is male. They were born July 16, 2008. Their parents have certificates from the National Purebred Cat Association (sic). I am located in the Northern Jersey area but can easily transport the kittens to NYC or whatever. I do prefer that you meet the kitten before you consider taking one, as you may not get along and vice versa. Thanks!

Meet PRINCE! This handsome fella was rescued in the nick of time from a high kill city shelter and has been living it up ever since. Prince is a sweet natured boy who loves life, and to play and run and be a dog!. This med-sized guy, around 40 lbs. gets along nicely with most dogs he meets, but is not good with cats. He would be a great watch dog, because he barks at the slightest sound, (but will be quiet when you tell him to! :) He is also well trained and very smart and eager to please you.
Prince has all his shots, is neutered, micro chipped and healthy as can be.
He is about a year old and would love a backyard to run around in to be your jogging buddy, hiking companion.. Give him a good half hour of running around each day, and he is a happy camper, and will become your couch potato.

Lucy is a 47 pound , low to the ground, sausage shaped dog who will charm you with her inquisitive eyes and gentle kisses..not to menton the adorable way she puts her paws on your lap one a time. her favorite thing to do outside in the runs is thump her pittie paws on someone's lap and the soak up all of the pets and praise they give her. She looks out into the distance, in a trance, and none of us can know what she's thinking. We found her wandering as a stray in east harlem, but stray dogs are not this well fed...or this friendly and used to the leash. Lucy was someone's pet once, and it breaks our heart to think that she won't ever get that chance again. She's a good girl and loving companion who is not fond of other dogs (she makes exceptions) and would be best as an only pet. The good news is that most members of the family can walk help take care of her, because she's easy on the leash and willing to learn even more obedience soon. Won't you give this low energy, snuggly couch potato a chance? We know she's not perfect, but she's trying, and she'll love you for as long as you live if you give her a home.

I am currently going to college and have to find my perfect dog a home. I know your probably like "Everyone calls their dog perfect" But I am here to say with 100% proof sitting right by me, that this full breed Cocker Spaniel (with paper work) is absolutely a perfect addition to any person or family looking for a friendly, house trained, and extra loving dog.

She just turned 5 yesterday and still has the same old puppy eyes.
She is house trained as well as super great around kids of all ages.
She loves to play and knows when its time to relax and settle down.
She knows her basic commands and is very keen for her breed.
She is probably one of the most friendly dogs you will ever have the pleasure of meeting.

I have to say that I really would love to keep her, but I have no other choice. Trust me, I've tried. I am getting a little teary eyed just typing this. Unfortunately, we need to find new homes for our cats. Number 1, we moved from a condo into a home but the space is even more limited than before. It�s just not fair to them. Right now, they are living in a basement and NOT loving it! I think they may be better off outside, but I don�t have the heart to do that to them. Number 2, our family, who watches our daughter, is allergic and won�t be able to help us out if the cats live with us. We love them dearly and will miss them SO much, but would rather have them in a good home than in a shelter. Both cats have been fixed and up to date on their shots. Neither has been de-clawed. They have always been indoor cats.
Auggie (white tabby mix) is approx. 8 years old and SUPER friendly. He would be fine being an outdoor cat.
Rocky (purebred Snowshoe- no paperwork) is approx. 6 years old. Although he will be scared at first, he will warm up to you and be a friendly lap cat. He would not be a good outdoor cat.

Jack is a young, Gorgeous light beige brindle, only 1.6yrs of age,; he's unique and his coat is amazing in color and feel: like velvet.. a lively and very well behaved boy, Jack is great on the leash, he's playful but calm too, very very smart and a very quick learner: this boy will amaze you in many ways; Jack loves toys an sometimes that can be his only quirk: he might not want to release a toy, much like a lot of dogs don't like people to mess with their food; but he's already learning that it's ok to release a toy, and he's quick to bond and fall in love with his human and follow theier lead: a good caretaker who is experienced with dogs will find it a breeze to continue teach Jack;

jack gets along with most dogs--loves girls and most males unless they are very alpha; but in general Jack minds his own business and loves playing with the dogs that fit in with him nicely. Becz he's somewhat dominant himself, we would not place him with another dominant dog just to be sure.

Stayia is a 1.5 year old stray who first came in on the 22nd. We've been trying to trace his owner, but we haven't had any luck so far...and we want Stayia to have a chance if the worst happens and his owner never claims him. Why shouldn't this boy have a second chance? He's a good dog- friendly and affectionate and responsive. He loves being pet and will happily sit next to you all night if you'll let him. He likes quiet times, lazy nights, and being spoken to softly. He appears housebroken, but has only moderate leash skills. He needs just a tiny bit of obedience due to his size and strength, and this 80-pound boy is going to be a champion walker as well as a champion snuggler!

Stayia has caught a cold since being at the shelter, and while he's recovering, he hasn't been seen by any adopters at all. He's losing his chance due to bad luck and a few lingering germs. We want Stayia to be noticed and considered, not just tossed aside. He needs an owner who knows what they are doing, because he'll need leash training as well as some basic social manners with other dogs- but it's going to be a joy to teach this guy. Last year, Chance and two other dogs were rescued from a garbage-filled trailor. Their owner, an elderly woman, asked a family member to place them in this trailor while she tried to find a place for them in her home. Unfortunately, she could not care properly for them so the dogs were taken to a city shelter. After 5 long weeks at a high-kill shelter, Chance was finally released from his cruelty hold. But where was he to go? We rescued Chance from euthanasia thanks to the generosity of one of the City's key patrons of homeless animals.
This is what Chance's foster parents have to say about the dog:
Chance is a prize! Sweet, affectionate, loyal, intelligent. He is approx 3 years and 45 lbs and has a beautiful light fawn color with big brown eyes and a soft, long muzzle. He's loyal and affectionate; he wants to be within 2 feet of you, at all times. He's got very short light hair, almost blond, though he does shed slightly. Chance has free run of the apartment when he's alone, and he hasn't damaged or chewed on anything.
Chance needs an owner who can give him lots of two things: exercise and attention. He loves to go on walks, trotting along, curious, sniffing everything. He will walk for hours if he is able, and his owners should ideally be as active as he is. If long walks/runs aren't always possible, Chance might do well with a yard to run around in to expel any extra energy.
Indoors, Chance loves to lie on the couch and play with his chew toys (he loves rope toys and small stuffed animals), but is happiest next to you or in your lap. He absolutely loves affection and wants to be the center of attention at all times. He might do well in a place where someone is home a lot of the day.
We want Chance to find a quiet, stable home with loving and active people -- he is one of the sweetest dogs we've ever seen and will definitely make someone's perfect pet!
