Dissatisfied with conventional rewards and the usual scene? Why not join our open talk group? On Friday, December 4, 2009 the Psychology Discussion Group will meet again at the at the LGBT Center at 208 West 13th Street in Manhattan at 8:00PM.
Do you think that the world would be a richer and safer place if only we understood each other better? And, are you willing to share your problems and discoveries openly with other growing men and women in a safe environment of support and challenge? If so, then join us. This is not a therapy group per se, but more of an opportunity to get a handle on those issues which get in the way of your personal development in friendships and in closer relationships.
Here's the proposed topic for the evening: Recovering from a major emotional failure or loss? What are some ways to re-establish independent warmth and pride? Andrew M. Greeley once said: "To quit is to die, to try again, to start over is to live. We rise from the dead only because we want to. And the only barrier to resurrection is quitting." What can I do on my own and what role can others play?

On Friday and Saturday (November 13 and 14) Rashied Ali's band will be doing a tribute show at Fat Cat. Many of you know that, sadly, Rashied passed away on August 12. This vibrant and amazing drummer was a huge influence on both jazz and the many musicians he befriended along the way.
Please join me at Fat Cat on Saturday for this show. However, if you can't make it perhaps you can go on Friday.

Don Slatoff's Jazz Circus!

To start out our new Meetup Wednesday's at Zinc we are going to hear the always wonderful Don Slatoff. Many of you heard Don during the underground big apple jazz festival at the 5C Cafe. Everyone loved the show! Now we will have the opportunity to hear this wonderful music in my favorite jazz club, Zinc Bar!
Don Slatoff says he's been fortunate to be on the jazz scene in New York since the early 70's, performing in a wide variety of venues with many remarkable musicians. Maybe some of you remember the legendary Monday nights at Ali's Alley with Jaki Byard's Apollo Stompers - Don was part of that band (first on tenor, then years later on baritone), part of Ray Draper's big band at Small's (when it was still in Harlem), Charlie Persip's Superband, the Microscopic Septet, the Big Apple Circus, etc.,etc.
In recent years, Don has been devoting himself to the bass clarinet, showcased with his group the Jazz Circus.
