East Side House, founded in 1891, has served the Mott Haven section of the Bronx since 1963. A staff of 281, including full and part-time teachers, social workers and other experts serve approximately 8,000 residents from 17 locations. Our after-school and evening programs serve nearly 1,500 children age 2-17. We are looking for a Group Leader (Female Character Development) for our After School Program at Mott Haven Village Preparatory High School.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Program Director, and Program Coordinator the Group Leader is expected to perform each essential duty of this position in a satisfactorily manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required.

The Group Leader is responsible for implementing and monitoring the service learning program through activities such as a Woman’s group, Youth Council, and Community Awareness. Areas of responsibility shall include but are not limited to the following:

•Organize and provide support and/or leadership for groups where the primary program emphasis is to encourage learning, make constructive use of leisure time, develop leadership skills, and enhance social development.
•Work collaboratively with the Program Coordinator in implementing the daily lesson plans in a thematic approach.
•Engage female students in areas such as leadership, time management, decision-making skills, conflict resolution, service learning, community service, reflection, and political issues.
•Engage students in topics such as hunger, neighborhood history, gun violence, sustainability communities, recycling, and global warming.
•Engage and assist participants with classroom assignments and projects.
•Organize and schedule local trips and activities in accordance with the service learning curriculum.
•Recommend, develop, and facilitate activities that provide participants an opportunity for growth.
•Perform administrative record keeping, ie; attendance, health/emergency records, and other functions as assigned.
•Write and submit daily activity schedule, daily sign in sheets, and program assessment.
•Perform any other duties delegated by the Program Director or Program Coordinator.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• H.S. Diploma with at least two years of experience in community based organization setting with youth; college strongly preferred.
•Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage participants.
•Basic computer skills and bilingual a plus.
•Demonstrated commitment to own educational development and education as a life value.

Work Schedule: At the discretion of the supervisor, the Group Leader must:
•Work from 3:00pm – 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. Some weekends may be required.
•Be able to maintain a flexible schedule during trips, special events, and activities as required.
