The kitchen and living room are huge and we're also able to hang out on the roof via ladder, with a great view of Manhattan, though that's obviously more of a draw for when the weather gets better in six months. Your bedroom is a medium-sized room with a high ceiling and a window overlooking a backyard (someone else's). Past residents have had a full size bed and other furniture in there with room to spare. Not a bad spot at all!

The other two bedrooms are taken by guys in our mid-20s guys. Not 9-to-5ers. Pretty laid back, but not the frat house type, so we'll probably do best with someone like-minded.

We're minutes from Prospect Park, and both the R and F subway lines. Park Slope has a great artisty vibe and you'll be near lots of cool bars and restaurants.

Hey, we're looking for a new roommate to fill out a spare room. Our current roommate is planning to leave in December, but we haven't set a move in date, could be as early as the 1st if you're willing to pay a little extra rent (our rent date is the 12th of every month). The room is about 9x9 give or take, and the apartment has a ton of common space. The living room is comfortable and the kitchen is huge. All of the common rooms are fully furnished, but you'd have to provide your own stuff for the bedroom. Utilities, which include electric, gas, cable, and internet usually run between $40-$60 per person every month on top of your monthly rent.
The house is a really nice Victorian on a quiet, residential street. The neighborhood is really nice and perfectly safe. It's populated mostly by families from a really diverse range of cultures. The Beverly rd. Q train station and the Church ave. F/G train station are both within a 5-10 minute walk from the house. The total commute to the city is about 40 min. to downtown, just under an hr. to midtown. There is a large laundromat within three blocks and the nearest supermarket is about 5 blocks away. There are some nice restaurants popping up in the neighborhood. Spots like Picket Fences and The Farm on Adderly, both of which seem to have a great reputation, and a few health food stores are just a few blocks away along Cortelyou rd. There are some good Indian, Latin, Thai and Middle Eastern places within walking distance, too.
As for the other rest of us, we're all in our 20s, and keep fairly normal schedules. There are 2 guys and 2 girls, so either gender is fine to move in. We all met through craigslist, but have been able to get along great. Everyone is pretty laid back, and we're pretty good about splitting the cleaning duties, TV time, etc. Our landlady and her family live on the floor beneath us, so we try to be as courteous as possible with them, they've been good to us so far. We've got 2 cats, so any more pets might be overkill. We're 420 friendly, but only 2 of us smoke, and our landlady is not pleased with the idea of that going on in her house. She's not the type to threaten or anything, but just try to keep that to your room as often as possible so as not to cause any awkwardness with her. Cigarettes are fine too, but please only in your room. I smoke hookah (flavored tobacco from a huge water pipe) pretty much every night in the living room. The smell is pretty inoffensive, it's more like incense, and no one else seems to mind, but if it really bothers you we can talk about it.

Check out our place that's only a minute from the Montrose L stop--just 15 mins. to Union Square. DECORATING/ETC: I have lived here for 6 years, am the only person on the lease, and am therefore solely responsible in picking future roommates, and decorating the common living areas, although you can feel free to decorate your own room. I AM NOT INTERESTED IN SHARING A LEASE WITH ANYONE. OF COURSE, EVERYONE HAS FULL USE OF LIVING ROOM/DINING ROOM/KITCHEN/BATHROOM/BASEMENT.

2. I have 1 CAT, and cannot take in any more cats, as it always leads to problems with my cat and messes (unless you swear to keep it within the confines of your bedroom). No dogs either. Other pets ok.

3. THREATENING OR HOSTILE BEHAVIOR, distracting/disruptive behavior, gossipy/ganging up with the other roommate behavior, and/or consistent bad attitude and rudeness directed at me, having guests over all the time, or not paying rent will be responded to with 30 day notices, eviction papers and other necessary measures. I've only had to do that in rare circumstances after trying to work things out, and would never take that decision lightly, but i'm just putting it out there. I hate to bring it up, but I have had to deal with *extreme examples of this in the past, and have experience in it (although 80% of my numerous roommates over the years were normal enough, and got along). MY MAIN POINT IS, I JUST WANT DECENT, POLITE, CONSIDERATE ROOMMATES WHO AREN'T INTO INSTIGATING TROUBLE, or being rude.

4. I am an occasional smoker. I quit about 1 year ago, but still will buy a pack once a month while partying or having a bad day, usually smoking it in the kitchen near an open window, or, if wanted, in a separate room so no one can smell it. I wish I could say I've completely quit, but I certainly don't smoke 90% of the time or everyday, or even every week.

5. GUEST POLICY: I have ONLY run into issues with people having guests too much when they get a new boyfriend who attempts to move in, or is in the place so much he might as well be a 4th roommate. I go out to see my friends mostly, and prefer quiet and calm to hyper-social. I think ONCE IN A WHILE, having a boyfriend over for a weekend is ok, or out of town guests for 1-2 weeks, BUT OTHER THAN THOSE OCCASIONAL TIMES, THERE SHOULDN'T BE MORE THAN 5 OVERNIGHT GUESTS PER MONTH, give or take (I guess it would depend on the situation and how we get along). What I mean is, if you are a hyper-social person and feel the need to have people sleep over every week, or worse yet, everyday, and socializing at home is a primary part of who you are, this isn't for you. Occasional parties I am OK with. I normally wouldn't spell this out so sternly, but I once had a roommate who interpretted guests over "once in awhile" as about 90% of the time, and noted that I never defined "once in awhile", so it was my fault (she'd make a great lawyer). So, guests are OK, hyper-social people are not. AGAIN, I'M JUST LOOKING FOR REASONABLE PEOPLE ON THIS ISSUE.

6. I ALSO HAVE A POLICY OF asking roommates to:
A. KEEP (CELL) PHONE CONVERSATIONS IN YOUR BEDROOM ONLY, as the noise reverberates throughout the house and I can hear people on cellphones talking in the bathroom/kitchen/hallway, etc, even from my bedroom and it's agitating.
B. TURN OFF LIGHTS/ AC'S/ FANS/ computers when leaving a room for more than 10 minutes or so, SO THAT WE DON'T GET A HUGE $$$ ELECTRIC BILL we all have to pay for.

7. CLEANING- I'm medium clean, and have always done all of the chores myself, without any help, as I tend to be home more than my roommates (that may change soon), and for a variety of other reasons. I also buy all of the toilet paper and cleaning supplies. My mantra is that if it's not clean enough for your standards, and you feel the need to complain, you can feel free to chip in.

8. I'D PREFER SOMEONE WHO GOES TO BED BY 11PM OR SO ON WEEKNIGHTS, OR IS QUIET AFTERWARDS, AS THAT ROOM IS RIGHT NEXT TO MINE, and I'm having problems with my current roommate accidentally waking me up around 1 am each night as she talks on her cell phone or opens and closes her door. So if you have a night shift work lifestyle during the week, I don't think this will work out. I recently bought a "white noise" machine to block out such sounds. Hopefully it will work, but I don't want to take the risk. I'm a former nightowl myself, fyi.

THE REST:
1) ME: I'm kind, tolerant, respectful, considerate, warm, accommodating, yet slightly aloof, emotionally detached, and pre-occupied and I am seeking the same in a roommate. So, by and large, I AM NOT A "SOCIAL" ROOMMATE.
I am a 29 year old NYU and FIT alumni (majored in english, and fashion/textile design respectively), and I work part-time as a publicist/copywriter within the fashion industry, while looking for more work on a freelance basis. I am financially stable and have lived in this apartment for 6 years and in NYC for 10. I am originally from the suburbs of NYC. I work in midtown, but also telecommute from home. I also have a million other side businesses and ideas I am working on, so I'm pre-occupied with that as well. I'm an artsy/intellectual/bohemian/reader/writer type, and an introvert, spending about 95% of my time when I am home alone (I'm not shy at all, just busy with my own ideas and life). I tend to see the roommate thing as primarily an economic situation- a way to save money. I'D REALLY LIKE TO HAVE MINIMAL INVOLVEMENT WITH MY ROOMMATES (I've found this works best). I'm not interested in heavy, right-off-the-bat interpersonal interactions, "drama", or relationships that distract me from leading my life. So, I'm open to friendship, but not looking for a friend (it takes me awhile to trust, especially after some of the experiences I've had. However, I am always there for my roommate if they need help or a shoulder to cry on, or want to have a drink on a Saturday night or something). I am looking for a decent roommate, someone to co-exist with, and above all else, just get along with. When I am home, I'm "off", meaning I'm not really in the mood to socialize most of the time or be "up" or "on" or have to put on an act. I'm also a native New Yorker (my roommates have come from all over the world and America, however), with the attendant personality type, which is to say, I am a kind person, but certainly not cheery/upbeat at all times. I spend most of my time at home cleaning, working, preparing, reading, etc., and generally keep to myself. I ALSO WANT TO COME HOME TO A CALM ENVIRONMENT, especially after a day of being out in our stressful, chaotic city. SO PRIVACY, PERSONAL SPACE AND DOWNTIME ARE KEY WAYS OF DESCRIBING MY WAY OF BEING. AS LONG AS YOU ARE A DECENT PERSON, WE SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS.
*The roommate who is moving out has lived here for 1 year, and is leaving to return for Florida as her internship is done- on good terms. I have 1 other female roommate. She's 26, very sweet, would get along with anyone, works full-time, and busy. THAT MEANS THERE IS A TOTAL OF 3 PEOPLE LIVING HERE, including myself and (maybe) you, even though it's a huge 5 bedroom apartment.

Kings Highway station stop on Q/B express train. Around the corner from shops/restaurants/gyms of every kind (Kingshighway is a MAJOR SHOPPING STREET in Brooklyn- you can find anything and everything there). 5 minute train ride to BROOKLYN COLLEGE (2.2 miles away by foot, car or bike), 15 minute walk. 15-20 min. commute to lovely Prospect Park or Marine park.

There are no hipsters here, but it's not like you have to hang out here. There are some interesting ethnic restaurants, and every amenity (5 banks, 3 gyms, 24 HOUR EATERIES/DELIS/WALGREENS). We are 10 minutes to park slope (hip area) and 30 minutes to the village, so who
cares? FYI, WE ARE NOWHERE NEAR WILLIAMSBURG (that question often comes up). It's about a 25 minute drive to Williamsburg (no direct train line), and 50 minutes by train.

ONE OF THE *SAFEST NEIGHBORHOODS IN NYC ACCORDING TO NYPD crime statistics, available online.

4) APARTMENT:
*Huge 5 bedroom (with only 3 people TOTAL, extra rooms, plenty spacious) apartment, the whole 2ND FLOOR of a 1920's big house, approximately 1700 sq ft.
*LOCKS on all bedroom doors (no need to worry over security).
*Full kitchen w/DISWASHER, XTRA FRIDGE (2 full size REFRIDGERATORS) + hot/cold WATER COOLER! (brita filtered tank),
** FREE LAUNDRY in building basement
*HUGE Living Room + HUGE Dining Room. AIR CONDITIONING in dining room cools whole place.

Hi!

-We are looking for new roommate to come live in a nice brownstone in Bay Ridge. This is the quiet family area of this neighborhood but there are plenty of bars and really good restaurants up on 3rd Ave. and we are only a few trainstops away from Park Slope. We take up the 1st floor and basement of a brownstone. 2 people live downstairs and there are currently 2 upstairs. One room is 10x11 and has a dresser and bed in it if you want them plus a big closet with overhead storage. That one is $700. and utilities included.

-The apartment includes a stoop with plants and a bench, a nice big kitchen and only 1 bathroom upstairs so- and this is very important - we need someone who can clean up after themselves. The room is a fair size (approximately 13'x10), with a window looking out on the corner. The kitchen/common area/bathroom separates your bedroom from mine...this layout provides us with a lot of privacy. I'm also very rarely at home...local business owner currently expanding...I basically use the apartment to sleep and watch movies in my room...and stretch/do yoga in the common area. More importantly, for those interested in staying long term, I will be moving at the end of the lease (1 year), and will be able to sign it over to my roommate (you!). The bad news...fourth floor walk up...no 'real' living room...a humble abode no doubt.
